When I was in college at Texas Western College (now UTEP) in the mid 60's, I watched this 826' stack being built. The foundation was 100'x100'x100'. The foundation took over 2 weeks of 24 hour per day pouring to complete. The stack was slip formed with a double wall construction that also went 24/7 for over 9 months.

All that and it was down in 10 seconds! The one I watch built is the second one in the video.

The side story to this is that after they put it into service, it didn't work! The thought that the double wall construction would keep the gasses hot enough to keep rising. It turned out that by the time the gasses reached the top they cooled enough to be heavier than the gasses below and would settle back down the flue.

They solved that problem by installing a jet engine in the base to "speed up" the flue speed and basically blow it out the top.

One was recently brought down in Washington State... built so well it took an additional charge to bring it down.

when I was a teenager here in Ottawa , they built new government office towers ..... they are now classified as "Heritage" buildings.

gasoline was .22 a gallon. cars had V8's in them and weighed 2 tons ... this gettin old really #$%^ ...
