This is why you don\'t drive through water!!!

This driver thought he could cross the stream of flood water running across our road. He quickly found out that it was a bad idea. You can see his car submerged right next to the power pole. I finally found him wandering around lost, confused, and very wet. He is in his 80's, had a stroke a few year ago, and suffers from poor judgement. It took a while to decipher who he was, where he was going, and where his brother lived. We finally got him to his brothers house, and alerted the sheriff dept. about the car and the water. His brother called me back a little while ago to thank me again for coming to his rescue, and to tell me that the car will be totalled. We were watching as the tow truck driver opened the passenger door and the water from the completely full passenger compartment cascaded out.

Since July 4th, we have had over 12" of rain. That may not seem like a lot to those of you in the northwest or the gulf coast, but here it is a "Hundred year series of storms" with our hard clay soil. In the picture you can see our house and barn to the right of the pole. Behind our house is a creek that was within 3" of coming out of the banks last night. We have a walkout basement that is only 12" higher than the creek bank. Needless to say there was very little sleep here last night. We only have 3 more days of rain to go before it's supposed to dry out. I CAN'T WAIT!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can't imagine someone thought they could drive through that.

You'd be amazed what people think they can drive through. We average 70" of rain per year here and still have a great number people swept away because they try and cross flooded streets. You'd think they'd know better here if anyone would. About 10-12 inches of water will move an auto if it's flowing sufficiently, even less for the smaller autos.

We're west of you Bubba and we're supposed to be dry sometime this afternoon. We've not had as much rain as you but south of us in Central Indiana they have. Hang in there, the sun will shine again /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
