I'll second this.Whirlpool is like those store-brand tractors that use multiple manufacturers but the same badging. Never really know what you're going to get.
I've had great luck with both Samsung and LG.
I'm never buying anything with the name Jennair or Kitchenaid on it again. Last few products turned out to be Chinese made trash that was badged with their names. You couldn't even find the product on their websites when I went there to complain. I expected quality and didn't even get decent operations or durability.
If you go through an appliance store and open all of the doors you'll find a lot of "different" manufacturers with identical shelving/drawers/etc. Many brands made by the same outfit with little to distingush them beyond the badge. These so called American brands are all just licensed out to who ever can produce it them the cheapest and most profitable.
The brands to trust nowadays seem to be the ones like LG, Samsung, Bosch and a handful of others.
I remember when Dad brought home a chest freezer from the drugstore after the new owner closed the soda fountain. It was a small thing designed to hold 3 five gallon ice cream containers (chocolate, vanilla and strawberry) It was built in the '30's by Frigidaire and was belt driven and noisy. Mom always complained that #%^$!!! thing froze stuff so hard it took forever to thaw.
Yeah, those days are gone.
