Bushhog BB comes in different grades/weights and not that much more I found by shopping hard. Dealers that wanted list price are over the top.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at Bush Hog's website and I think you're right. The MBX series looks beefy. A 5' blade is about 200# heavier than this KK standard duty.

There's a thread about Bush Hog box blades in this thread.

The Land Pride BB25 series is OK, and the Bush Hog MBX, too. I would want one with at least 3/8 inch sides, (instead of 1/4 inch), and want it to weigh at about 600 pounds. The heavier the better. I know there are other brands that must be better, too.

I added a 6 foot piece of RR track to the top of mine to add weight for better digging and ballast.

I think we have the MBX series and at 8' it weighs 100+ pounds per foot. Ours had the flapping rear cutting blade but feel the fixed rear is stronger but it a mute issue since I used the FEL or hoe for doing dozer work now instead of a box blade like before.

The repair/changes look nicely done.

I took a few pictures when I did my project yesterday, but they mostly only showed before and after so I could see how good of a job I did and where I want to do some more work.

Here's one picture of the tractor with the blade. The tractor is a JD 2440 with JD 146 loader. A 7' blade would work better behind this tractor.

Getting the Woods BSM84 here. Built heavier than the landpride bb series.

The welding shop looks like they did a good job! Do be careful using that box blade on a Cat 2 tractor. It's just not designed to take the kind of forces that a Cat-2 tractor can put out, as the previous owner learned. By reinforcing some parts of a smaller box blade, you usually just move the failure point somewhere else, so don't count on your reinforcements to make the blade Cat-2-ready.
For sure-just wonder if perhaps that box tube should have been welded to a plate instead of direct to the back plate-not so much an issue when pulling the box full of material but how about pushing with the rear blade???

That is a good point and I hadn't thought about it. I did push with it attached to the tractor above and didn't have any problems, but I was only pushing material that was already loose. If this blade ever gets K.O.'d again I'm probably going to let it stay dead depending on the damage.

P.S. I never mentioned what I have in this project:

-Blade $250
-Repairs $120
-(2) Cat 2 pins $10
-1/4th tank of gas $20.

Approx $400 plus 3.5 hours of time.

Price at Orsheln's Farm and Home is about $600 plus sales tax which would come out at about $45 to $50 in my area on that amount.

Hey Jeff,

Way to go!

Even if it is not the BB you eventually want, it sure is an amazing upgrade from what it was, worth both more than you paid out, and way more than the dealer prices you quoted.

As to going backwards to grade with it, be careful, even with Cat 2 lift arms, they are not as strong pushing as pulling and especially now that you have so greatly improved that aspect of the BB, the lift arms could be your new crumple zone.
