A Hay Field along the PA/DE border
Tractor
Challenger MT655E, Massey Ferguson 7495, Challenger MT535B, Krone 4x4 XC baler, (2) Kubota ZD331’s, 2020 Ram 5500 Cummins 4x4, IH 7500 4x4 dump truck, Kaufman 35’ tandem 19 ton trailer, Deere CX-15, Pottinger Hay mowers

This would be the answer to my constant issue of needing to load square bales, while at same time needing to mow fields with the CX-15. Pretty much everything I want in a tractor.
Only thing holding me back is the hours. I usually stop looking at 6,000 hours. This one has well over 7,000 on original engine & CVT.
It’s pure grunt with an oversized Sisu diesel, Fendt CVT, Quicke/Alo loader, suspension and nice rubber.
Very similar to my Challenger, except it has a Sisu while my Challenger has a Perkins.

My question would be - why is it being sold. What do the service records show.

Those hours are getting close to big money repair bills. But then you might squeak out 1-2000 hours especially if (as it seems) your the only operator of a multi tractor fleet.
What is the ballpark price of a transmission rebuild?

I would guess owner moved into something newer.
Asked about service records

That many hours would scare me. However, if you factor in the risk of a big repair bill on top of the benefit of that tractor, it might be worth the risk for you

Trust your gut but also remember there's a reason you stop looking at 6,000 hours.

I would call another big Agco dealer and talk to their service manager. Ask his opinion. That's a 5-minute phone call.

Hay farming doesn’t allow for new tractors unless you are farming several thousands of acres and probably have a legacy farm given to you. The price of new farm tractors is insane now.
I am forced to buy the best deals I can get on well used tractors and balers. Only thing I might buy new is a smaller attachment or my personal work truck. I’m fine with that. I really don’t want a new tractor. Far too complex and expensive.

That’s what I am thinking. It’ll get about 250 hours per year put on it, which isn’t all that much. I have 2 operators - me and my son (so far).
The largest tractor is pretty much permanently tied to the large square baler. That leaves us 2 for mowing, raking, teddering, field mowing, bale loading and snow plowing.

I have no knowledge of that model tractor or tranny style but have run tractors with well over 6,000 hrs with little to no concern. Last one was deere 8520 if remember model correct with over 9,000 hrs before sold. Really tough call when you don’t know the history or operator(s). Best wishes on your decision.

I have run high houred tractors as well. Have seen many 15,000 hour tractors on mostly original drivetrain, too.
You are correct that it mostly depends on owner care/maintenance.

If you look at the interior and exterior of it, it looks well cared for & maintained.

Nice looking tractor, front tires are getting down but still good for a while.
Does that have the full 4 sp PTO (540, 540E, 1000 and 1000E) that could be handy.
As I understand it the Agco tractors have the more intuitive CVT controls compared to CIH and JD.
Also it is speced to have the 50 KPH 30 mph travel speed which makes for faster traveling if the roads are good enough and it doesn't get to bouncing.

Agree. And I kind of like worn (like 50%) tires because they don’t dig up the hay fields as much-especially on turns.

It’s the same as my Challenger. 540/540E/1000.

I have 2 of them now. My Massey 7495 and Challenger MT535B both have them. There’s a fingertip reverser on the column that changes direction and speed, then theres a knob on the armrest that changes speed. Really nice.

Yep. That’s the only one to buy, IMO. It comes with a front suspension to handle the extra speed and reduce bounce. You actually find yourself going a bit too fast sometimes.
