I have been lurking/looking while evaluating tractors that I "must" buy and the lack of activity made me think I was the only one out there thinking of Branson (tractor not resort).

I live @ 7,000 fewet in South NM and have 8 acres of steep hillside, including 3 acre meadow (slopy) and 1 acre round the house. Will be grading and digging footings for retaining wals, levelling for a barn pad.

Was thinking of 3820 with FEL, (maybe BH) and box blade . Nearest dealer is 100 miles+ so need reliable and simple (little mech skill)

What do you think - I would like something smaller for manoeverability but will it have the poke? What would be a good combo of eqpt (very little mowing - nothing grows!). This will be our first tractor.

thanks -

I'm a Branson dealer, but at 7000 feet, you must get a turbocharged unit. You lose about 4% HP per 1000 feet elavation, so you can figure nearly 30% HP loss on a non-turbo unit. On a turbo, there is little loss. If you can find a used 4020 Branson, you'll have a turbo, otherwise all units are non-turbo. A 3215 Mahindra turbo will have 32HP at 7000 feet, while a 3820 Branson will have about 27HP. The 3215 is a little smaller, has a super tight turning radius and will have significantly more power. Whether it is Mahindra, Branson, Kubota, JD, or whatever, get a turbo at your elevation.

I was at my dealer's on Saturday and saw a 5530 with a BL30 FEL and a 9620 Backhoe. Man, that made my mouth water. Nice console of controls on the operator's left side. Gear shift, 3 point controls, etc. Dealer said sells for around $32K. Beautiful red machine.

Yes, that price was with the FEL and Backhoe. They were definitly sized up from my BL20 and 8620 implements. I can not find it on the Branson web site, but you might just want to call your dealer and get a quote. Or call my dealer: Big Jon Little Tractors, 530-888-8863. They are in Auburn, CA.
