About a year and a half ago I went to demonstration on dredging an existing lake /pond at the lake in pictures. The procedures they used ( see WWW.myearthwater.com) were/are state of art. If only the Gov would of stayed out of it The dredging would be almost done by now and the tax payers $700 million less broke,And most importantly the eco system would have remained intact!
The pic's were taken 11-27-10 after 2.5 inches of rain within 48hrs.period.The water is still rising!!! deer season opens this monday(29th) in PA. .. These machines 7 excavators
2 dozers
1 vibrator/roller
1-2 pora toilets
and I'm pretty sure I saw a 500gal. fuel tank & 1-2skid steers totally under
O and rain next week...Marlo is the General contractor for the Army corp. ENg. North Park lake 20 miles north of PGH. PA .. way to go fellows:cool:

Sad but true... hopefully your local news media will take this and run with it.
Very sad...

I guess I don't understand, why the machines were left setting there in low ground when the rain started, and why someone did not move them to higher ground,? That is a lot of money going to waste there! Can you explain this better to me! Sorry to be so thick headed, but I really don't understand this.

Someone will get promoted for this.

"why the machines were left setting there in low ground"

Simple, because it was Saturday and government bureaucrats don't work on weekends.

Let me see if I understand what you have said. ...Marlo is the General contractor, it is their equipment, Marlo General Contractors are the ones who will have to repair the equipment, not the Tax Payer. Maybe it should have said, "The Government Should Have Been Involved". I also would think, ...Marlo the General contractor is a large purchaser of advertisement in the local paper so getting the local paper to write an article and posting pictures ridiculing Marlo for a very-very poor management decision will be like finding a couple of roosters in the chicken coop with teeth. Or are you saying, "Job Specifications" were stated, Marlo bid on the job and tried to do something other than what the "Job Specifications" called for and had their hand called resulting in work being stopped, hence the machines were abandoned by Marlo, the rain came, now look.

Wether the government was involved or not, if this Marlo outfit was invloved or not, the question remains-how and why did those machines get left where the water could do this? My curiosity wants to know "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would have said.

Here's more of the governments way. This excavator was cleaning ditches and slipped in. That I understand, but 5 weeks later the city still hasn't moved it. Another week later five similar machines took three days to get it out. The water was about a foot below the surface before they pumped it out They should have hired a private contractor to do it, and the reason our taxes are so high.

None of this has anything do with whether the government is involved or not.
What it shows is how people dont care about doing a good job and not taking ownership of a project.
I bet each and everyone of those machine were assigned an operator and they are the ones responsible for this.
You can bet anyone of us who had a machine in danger of flooding we would do what we could at the end of the day to make sure it was safe. In one way or another the people will pay, either thought taxes or through higher insurance rates.
