Went to the Forth of July bash in town to hear the misses sing with the local praise band, and we hung out afterwards to hear a group of young musicians take the stage afterwards. "kids" looked like they were in high school, and looks like one even had his dad up on stage practicing an electric banjo. Thinking might get some bluegrass or country, and what do you know, the first song was Skynyrd, the second an Eagles tune.

Figure if the youth of today are playing Skynyrd and the Eagles, heck, there is still hope for our country

What? Just as an example, do you have any idea where Don Henley stands on issues? Or Glen Frey? That may be your idea of hope, but it's certainly not mine.

I would like to consider my myself not narrow minded enough as to have an artists personal views dictate if I like their work or not.

Heck, I even like the Motor City Madman, even though he can come across as borderline nutt job on his interviews, added the fact that he was no better than countless other people who intentionally avoided serving our country during the last draft.

I think it's due to the advent of MP3 players (known by the trendy and those trying to appear so as iPods ). When I was a young whippersnapper all the "cool" kids listened to the same radio station which played the same type of music over and over again. Even if you didn't listen to that station and wanted something different, the music was fairly homogeneous no matter where you set the dial. These days radio is sooo 1900s and kids who listen to [insert whatever it is kids listen to these days - don't I feel old!] find it much easier to discover classic rock and other genres rather than being spoon fed the Top40.

Politics again? It was about music! I even like some of Hank Williams JR's stuff and while I would guess his political views might be more to your liking they certainly don't appeal to me.

If you feel the need to agree with an artist's views on stuff he or she has no particular knowledge about before you can enjoy the art, you must spend copious amounts of time researching those details. About the only "artist" whose work I tend to avoid these days because of his views on stuff is Tom Cruise, and that's just because I can no longer "suspend disbelief" and just watch him.

Years ago I heard someone in the press interview Mel Brooks and they asked him some sort of question about politics. Mel said something like "what are you asking me about politics for? I'm an entertainer, you should not talk to entertainers about politics"

Love that, wish I knew the exact quote.

Tom Cruise is odd to say the least, Skynyrd and the Eagles are fun to listen to. I don't care to even consider what their "views" are. Who cares.

It really wouldn't matter what kind of music the band was playing (and I consider myself to have a wide range of music tastes varying from the Mills brothers/Tchaikovsky to the Offspring/Willie Nelson, with everything in between, still trying to gasp rap though).

However, to answer your question, as mentioned, perhaps it's not the songs/artists themselves (which I think you read way to much into) but that here you have young high school students taking their time to play at a the local town celebration in front of old and young alike. Added to the fact that the young band members had their mothers in attendence cheering them on, and one young band member on stage even had his father performing the guitar with him (and the father was quite a ham on stage to boot) it showed me that their are still some family values such as supporting the endevors of your children and encouraging them to do what they like to do.

Besides that, if you can't rock to Skynyrd or the Eagles, who can you to?

It's also real hard to yell "FREE BIRD!" when your church's praise team sings

Most artists , music or otherwise. Actors included use their popularity to push their beliefs on others, not unlike some long time contributers to these forums. You just have to Enjoy the music, art , & in some cases here the BS & sort through it.

Theres several here with well over a thousand posts ,that very seldom add usefull input in the threads , but seek out the drama & like to play safety police . Once again only my opinion.

But I enjoy reading it all . but in some cases as with music it makes You wish you could just change the chanel . .

I just ask stupid questions when I need to . & help when I can . But Its just from my experience , Not from googling to make me look smart , Which I,m far from in case you haven,t figured that out yet . . Bob
