Do you have any theft prevention measure on your tractor? Since towing my tractor to my future homesite will be difficult, I am thinking about leaving my tractor out there for a little while. With that comes the concern of theft. What would you recommend for theft prevention measure?

There was recently a thread on this but I can't remember what it was called. Something to do with those storage containers ( the 20-40' type) and if memory serves (failing) it seemed that one of the better ones I read about was to remove the front tire(s). Seems if its not mobile they don't like to make the effort.

Is there an area on your land where you can park the tractor within sight of the neighbors? If there is and you ask them if they would keep an eye on your tractor, they may offer to let you keep it on their property by their stuff. Good way to meet the neighbors.
If a thief or some kids can't take it for a joyride or steal it, they may tamper with it out of spite unless it's in a shed of some type and I hate to say it but... insurance. Make sure it is specifically covered on the other property and the way it will be stored or kept there.

Just finished reading that thread. That was really helpful. I didn't find it in my search. Thanks.

Good point Freds. I can't tell you how many times our tractors, trenchers, trackhoes, backhoes, etc., have been vandalized. Everything from sand (and other liquids) in the fuel tank to broken windows and lights. Of course, we have had our fair share of stolen equipment as well. I wish there was an option of purchasing a key switch that was different from the other tractors out there. I tried to do that for my 4200 and was told that they don't make different switches.

Is it insured? Didn't cost me much to add tractors to my Farm Bureau fire policy to cover theft and fire. Fire might be a bigger threat than theft.

NOT SURE you can revent theft or vandalizing. a determined thief will find a way to do it. Best to take all precautions you can and make sure you are coverd by insurance.

Months ago when I was looking around the internet for trailer locks, I stumbled upon a company the makes equiptment locks for excavators, back hoes, skid steers etc. but failed to save the link! If and when I find the company again, I'll post the link here. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
