No, it is designed with enough weight on the back, that orange casting weighs 2200 pounds.

I was trying to see if it would reach the tipping point when I extended the boom, it did!

Well it is probably heavier. I didn't have the boom as high when using the scale, as when it reached the tipping point .

As you can see from the Rated Load chart, it will hold more weight when the boom is higher:

Here it is with the boom fully retracted:

And 5,000 pounds on the scale:

Raised the boom a little more, scale shows OF for over flow. The rear wheels are still on the ground:

Mine was just over $300 on eBay 4 years ago.

It is called a Crane Scale. Measures in 1 pound increments to 5,000 pounds.
