Right now it is hovering near 10 F outside and there are 4 inches of snow/ice on the ground. throw in the full moon and it is beautiful outside. I have both the woodstove and the wood cookstove going. The house is toasty warm.

The best part is that I am typing this on a laptop snuggled up on the sofa by the woodstove instead of at the desk in the computer room. For Christmas I got a high speed internet connection, a wireless router and cards for the laptops. Took a while to get it all hooked up but it was worth the frustration.

So while it is bitter cold outside I have a dog curled up on one side, a cup of tea and TBN. Ahhh life is good. It will be hard to give up this spot on the sofa - even to ride on the BX /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Life is good isn't it?

I had company a couple of times today on the job. They were all complaining about the cold, thirties with a south breeze to make it interesting.

It wasn't that bad. I had challenging work. We wrestled a bit, the work and me. To a draw on somethings, it won a round or two, but I came out on top overall.

There's few things finer'n doing work that's challenging.

Sure does take different strokes to be happy -- makes the world go 'round. I got new laptops and wireless router and cards for Christmas, too. The major difference is that my view of the full moon is a little blurry, through the mesh of the pool screen, as I sit on the patio in shorts. There's a little breeze picking up, I may have to go put on a tee shirt. My wife is over in the glider swing, surfing EBay on her laptop. Live is good. It's been more than 31 years since I left New England; I can't remember real cold.

Don, A lucky dog for sure. Except it wasn't the BX that pulled me from the sofa. I had to come to work eventually.

Harv, I wrestled with the install of this wireless network for a good while and barely came out on top.

Don, Interesting contrast. I have been here for 5 years and still like the cold and snow. I do not ski but love to snow shoe with my daugher or dogs in the woods.
We are in a cold snap and the media tries its' darnest to make it an "event". I don't understand this mentality. It is January in New England - it is supposed to be cold. We all know this. But the media acts surprised and "activates the storm center". I envision meteologists sliding down a pole while an alarm blares in the background.

Is it like that in other parts of the country? You live in Florida. Do you turn on the radio and the announcer is acting all surprised that it is 80F and sunny and beautiful? I expect not. But up here they act all surprised that it is cold and snowy.

Phil we get the same treatment here in Ohio. Every year Lake Erie produces a lot of "lake effect snow" until it freezes over. Yet when a front develops and starts to drop the heavy stuff the meteorologists all seem to go spaz over the snowfall. They act like we never saw snow before. It hard to figure at times. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I was raised in Ohio, love the season changes, and would expect nothing less than cold in the winter. Heck, if I don't see lots of snow I personally feel cheated.

I dint mind the snow, we get very little of it here in north Texas...But that ice is a real bummer in the south. I used to do a lot of trucking years ago... It always scared the heck out of me in a winter storm in the south.... Most Texans are not able to stay on the road when it rains much less when the weather really gets bad, My Yankee friends seam to be able to handle the bad weather much better than us southerners.

Phil,

All "weather guessers", as we used to call them in the Navy, must go to the same school, because it's the same thing here in Wisconsin.

It always cracks me up when it's in the late fall and the forecast is calling for, say, a 38 degree day. The weather guessers say how chilly or cold it's going to be. But during the winter or very early spring, the same 38 degree forecast is called balmy or unseasonably warm. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sounds like a nice evening for all concerned. I was looking forward to the full moon to do some night snowshoeing but it's just a little chilly for that now!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll tell you why the weather guesser's do it. They like to show off there new techno toys and in there own way there trying to balance the economy. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifHow many time have you heard bad storms are coming. Then you go by the supermarket and there packed with people buying batteries, water, toilet paper and other essentials!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Must have to much time on my hands! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
