I've been watching old westerns on youtube, and found this one amusing.

THE RESTLESS GUN - BETTER THAN A CANNON - YouTube

No doubt this thread will get perverted into a philosophical debate between black and white, but hopefully we can have some fun with it first.
Skip forward to 5:12, and you will see one of the characters "bear arms" in the form of a loaded cannon.

Yes, at the time our Constitution was written, individuals owned not only cannons, but also armed warships.

The idea that the 2A was not meant to allow citizens to have "modern military arms" is totally false.

Even the Supreme Court ruling (in the 1930's) that sawed off shotguns could be restricted was BECAUSE THE MILITARY DID NOT USE THEM. That of course turned false during WWII and Vietnam where short barrelled shotguns were used for clearing Japanese trenches and especially in Vietnam where they were commonly used in the enemy tunnels.

Interestingly enough the Winchester model 97 and the model 12 were both used in World War 1 with the model 97 the predominant one. They both had perforated metal hand-guards, and could mount the standard bayonet that fit the Springfield and Enfield rifles of the time. This was in 1917-1918. The Germans protested the use of these arms claiming that they violated the Geneva convention. But after their use of poison gas, that seemed to fall on deaf ears. In any case these were well liked and put to good use by the Americans.

They're coming after our guns, don't you forget it. They hate the 2nd amendment. But even with the second amendment. It didn't help folks in California or New York and some of the north eastern states, too.
The folks in Congress act as if they are not even the United States side of any thing.
Just look at the so called Covid relief bill
$50 million to Egypt's military
Assistance for Pakistan, not less than $15,000,000 shall be made available for democracy programs and not less than $10,000,000 shall be made available for gender programs." Yep. $10 million. For gender programs. In Pakistan.

Exhibit B: Funds for "Resource Study of Springfield (Illinois) Race Riot." That riot occurred in (checks notes) 1908.

Exhibit C: "Statement Of Policy Regarding The Succession Or Reincarnation Of The Dalai Lama." We'll just leave that one there.

Exhibit D: There's actually a commission tasked with educating 田onsumers about the dangers associated with using or storing portable fuel containers for flammable liquids near an open flame."

Exhibit E: Another $40 million will be allocated "for the necessary expenses for the operation, maintenance and security" of The Kennedy Center, which received $25 million in another COVID-19 relief bill earlier this year. Also in a related story, the Kennedy Center has been closed.

Exhibits F, G, H, I, J: $86 million for assistance to Cambodia; $130 million to Nepal, $135 million to Burma, $453 million to Ukraine, $1million to Burma to repair a patrol boat, $700 million to Sudan.

Exhibit K: The bill creates a Women's History Museum and an American Latino Museum as part of the Smithsonian. Overall, the Smithsonian gets (checks notes again) $1 billion.

You get the idea. It's the oldest trick in Washington: Take a bill that symbolically is overwhelmingly supported by the American people on its title alone (COVID-19 relief for those struggling due to the pandemic). Then attach every pet project possible, in this case by combining it with an omnibus spending bill, and away we go.

the very reason the north almost lost the civil war.. Because common citizens were allowed to own the same weapons as the military

The Government vowed to never allow the common peasant to ever be as well armed as the military ever again.
And, this is the reason the common peasant is where he /she is today. Restricted as to what he /she is allowed to own by the powers that be.
Peasants must remain in check at all times

You need only watch our elected officials and alphabet agencies to realize how much they hold us in contempt. I for one will not forfeit my rights or freedoms.

History should be taught, not forgotten.

At the risk of getting this thread locked lol, I will say that America is heading for red/blue split, which will be hastened if the dnc finds a way to abolish the electoral college. Precedent is already there, you got sanctuary cities and states defying federal drug laws, red states could site that as a springboard.

This thread was started because of a humorous youtube video I was watching, and tried to share. Barring that, very nature of the topic means it's predestined to be closed.
