30 years ago I sold a high end registered polled Hereford bull calf to a guy named Tom. We were looking over the registration papers and he commented that he would name it Tom. This was a beautiful bull calf. But Tom?

Tom was also his boy's name. And the dog and cat. He explained it was easier than trying to remember all the different names so he just named everything Tom.

Every bull we had I called Otis.

Until I was 12 I thought my name was dammit.

Cosby did a great sketch on this, back in the 70's. His brother was God Damnit, and he was Jesus Christ. One day he's out playing in the rain, and his mother shouts out, "God Damnit, get out of the rain, before you catch cold!" And he replied, "but mom, I'm Jesus Christ!"

Shame what that guy did, as he was real easy to like, up to that point.
