It has taken a while but I have built up a pretty big pile of dirt in the back corner of my lot. Last summer I started the pile when I excavated for a new driveway. This year it has been added to substantially as I excavate for my new garage. Saw one of the other posts where the user had used his BX23 for clearing out a burned out house. Figured I would show a little more of what the BX can do.

I've built a few good piles with the o'l bx as well. where did U get that larger backhoe bucket? how does it perform?

Very impressive...... now what are you going to do with it when all the construction is done????

You can tell when someone has spent a few dollars on diesel fuel. Now its time to buy a little dump truck.

Time and patience can do many things.

That's going to be a problem - once I finish all the construction I will have a lot less tractor seat time. I may have to sell this house and get another one. Hopefully with more land the next time so I can get a bigger tractor.

I got the backhoe bucket from a fellow TBN member who traded in his BX23 for a B3030 and did not need the bucket any more. I think he said that he had it custom made locally. The bucket is 24" wide and is the same depth as the original Kubota 12" bucket. It works great for leveling or digging in soft dirt - not so well for prying out rocks or very rocky soil. I bought it from him because I wanted to be able to put a level bottom on the trenches I am digging for the foundation footers. So far it has been working great for that. It also moves much more dirt than the 12" bucket - for digging the trenches I have had to start digging in one spot and put the dirt to one side of the working area - then move the tractor sideways and move the dirt I just dug out over and excavate and repeat. This means I have to keep moving the pile sideways - but the larger bucket moves the dirt much faster so it isn't so bad. Now I know why excavators are more efficient than backhoes. If I could swing further I could actually get the dirt out of the hole.

It really is amazing what you can do with one of these smaller TLB's, if you have the time.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

To get rid of extra dirt, you need only dig a hole and bury it. He's already got a BH to dig the hole with.

I try to think of problems as opportunities - usually opportunities to buy more tools. I am thinking that big pile of dirt is a good excuse to go buy a dump trailer.....

Jim,
just a little more height and a few months from now you can open a beginers ski school.

They are big, there is lots of them, and every time the bucket goes into the ground I hit another one. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. For the most part I have been trying to separate out from the dirt anything that is bigger than say basketball size. Figured I would use the rocks for a stone wall or a retaining wall down the road. Since I am going to have to move a lot of the dirt in the big pile back when I backfill around the new garage foundation I figured putting the rocks in a separate pile will make that easier because I wont be constantly running into the rocks again when I move the dirt.

He could feed it to his tractor like I do .
