The Passage of Time

/ The Passage of Time #51
For a couple college classes I'd buy cheap electronics from a place whose name I can no longer recall. They sold *ALL* sorts of wonderful electronic gizmos and their main mode of advertising was a rather thick newspaper. It was a strictly cut rate place and sold much of their merchandise in grab bags and industrial size lots mostly via mail order. Thats where I became aware of pixies/nixies. Sure do wish I could recall the name of that place.

My first computer was a Commodore 64-of course, no hard drive, but it did have those 5.25" floppys. Cost about $1,000 not including printer. Learned alot about programming from using that thing, though. Bought an Epson printer for it with a different ribbon for each color. We've come a long way since 1978!!
Regards, Mike

Mike- That was my first computer also a Commodore 64 and i remember that it did not have any ahrd drive at all. There was one progam on it I think it was called quick calc if I recall right like a very early spreadsheet program.

We could hardly beeive the Christmas my parents bought each of their 4 kids IBM System 2 computers and a HP printer. I think at the time which would have been the early 80's the package was about $2,500 a piece. My mother an accountant, especially thought all her kids should have this great IBM personal computer. Now my parents are not the type to spend a lot of money but my mom especially jsut wanted us to have a computer, she was sure that this was the future. I cna't remember if the disks were the big floppys or the small floppies, I think they were the small ones.

But oh that commadore with no hard drive that was something. But at least you could type text and go back and correct which you could not do on a typwriter, and you could save your file to a disk, hot **** that was the bomb.
