So lately there seems to be a lot of conversation about the lack of good yard carts on the market. I think this would be a good place for us to brainstorm and discuss our ideas.

Myself, I have a #18 John Deere cart. While I do like it, I find it's operation annoying. After I load product, and get to where I want to dump it, I must get off my tractor, remove the tail gate, pull the release lever, push the cart up, then get back on the tractor to pull forward. If you are not mindful when loading your cart, too much heavy material in the front half will make it almost impossible to raise the cart to dump it. The dump angle is fairly good, but not steep enough for items to come out by themselves 90% of the time. In order to get the product to start sliding out of the cart, you usually need to give hard "blips" on the forward hydro pedal, and then race out from under the pile. This likely isn't good for the machinery, and is definitely uncomfortable for the operator. On some occasions, the load will stick even when you pull ahead, and then it let's go 5 feet past where you wanted it. Now you need to push the material back by hand or with your front blade if you have one.

What I would like to see on the market is a yard trailer with a hydraulic dump setup, that can be done completely from the seat of the tractor. To me, the name of the game is efficiency. I want to be able to back up to my dump site, raise the bed to a nice steep angle, wait until everything falls out, lower the bed, and drive away. All without leaving the tractor seat.

This is what I would like to purchase, the only problem I see is I think it was custom made and is not available for purchase.

"country manufacturing" makes both hydraulic dump wagons and cart/trailers for lawn/garden tractors. I believe they are also carried by Northern Tool.

I have seen them but the cost is too high.

The king kutter xb is what you are looking for. Hydraulic dump powered by tractor remotes or hand pump. 1.5 ton capacity. Good tailgate latch design.

that's a cool 2500.00$

I should have said, I think this thread is better served with carts that can be pulled with a riding mower/garden tractor. Those trailers are far too big for the average home owner to fit into the spaces these need to go.

I know those trailers exist on the market. The problem is something smaller, like the #18 JD cart. I think the market needs a trailer that size with hydraulic dump and a steep angle.

Brinly makes most if not all of John Deere's lawn and garden attachments. They show a manual dump with a 56 degree rear slope dump trailer, no tail gate, in three sizes. They should cost in the area of $200-$500 depending on size. It would be easy enough to install a lift cylinder to any of these.

I think Wolftree is right on the money. There isn't a big enough market for a manufacturer to produce a dump trailer for lawn tractors at an affordable price. We're really talking about a custom lawn trailer. It will be less expensive to take manual dump trailer and add your own hydraulic lift to it. Youtube has some videos by people that have done that. Good Luck with your project!

The CMI trailers aren't too big. The are only 3' wide, similar to most garden carts. Mine is 3 x 6'. Fits most places in my yard. My wife loves it. She drags it around everywhere. The others (except for the phantom canadian one I mentioned) a re more like 4' wide, and could be too wide for many. The canadian one was 3' wide with the tapered bottom, like big material dumpers only GT size.

I have one of these (similar) from Harbor Freight that I pull behind my riding mower. It isn't a dump trailer but for the price I suppose one could modify it to do such a task.
It is rated for highway use but it is very small and light.
The most recent job I used it for is a chemical sprayer tank(50 gal.) from TSC with a custom made spray rig to treat the lawn for fleas. Mine had sides and a tail gate which is not in use at this time.
I also use the wand that came with the tank to get to places that I can't drive over.

Here is my CMI modified cart.

There are a couple of companies that make really nice small ones for GTs. The are in the $1500 range. One I saw on here is real sweet. Was Canadian made and I could not find a U.S. source for it.

The other is made by pronovost P-503: Our Products - Pronovost - 503 Trailer

The 503 is a very nice trailer. I almost bought one at auction, but it went too high for me. Pronovost makes high quality, pro grade stuff. The KK is pretty nice too, about the same size as the Prono. IIRC the KK is made in Canada by one of the main implement manufacturers here (not prono but another manufacturer), but I cant remember where I read it to list who it was.

Youre not thinking of these trailers are you? MUTS - Multi-Use Trailer System for your ATV, Quad and 4 Wheeler - Tandem I notice that DR is selling something similar and if I know DR its very likely that they simply ripped off MUTS design.

Similar. That's pretty nice. Except the one I remember had hydraulic dump and think the bed set a little different. It definitely had the taper bottom like this one. I'm pretty sure it was not a MUTS trailer though.

I like all of these. But, for considerably less a modified CMI trailer is still the best deal. Short of some super heavy duty users, it would meet most anyone's needs connected to a GT. I think I have about $500 in mine: trailer, hydraulic cylinder, hoses, green paint, etc. Sure I'd like one of the $2000 trailers. But, I also like to keep $1500 in my pocket!

what about these guys: Cub Cadet Parts

That is a nice looking cart if you have the hydraulic hookup for it.
I use a cart often but mostly for sticks and leaves so I do not really need the cylinder.

I have a backhoe so I can use it for really heavy stuff.
The old JD Gators and several of the UTV's have dump beds.

Everyone has different needs for sure.

Currently, the only machinery I have is my X740 and 18 cart. I use my trailer more than anything. I have so much to move with it over the next few years that the hydraulic dump would save me hours and hours of time. I also use my cart to haul material from one end of the property to the other unused side where we dump yard waste. It's covering 7 acres one way, so a good cart is essential! When I get to the other end, I just got comfortable in the seat, then I have to get off and mess with the cart.

Likely can't afford it this year, hopefully this guy will still be around next year.

If you don't have hydraulics on your GT, you can put a electric actuated cylinder under the CMI cart just as easily as a hydraulic cylinder. I think one of these would work quite well for loads of about 500 lbs or so:
Wel-Bilt Linear Actuator — 12 Volt, 7 7/8in. stroke | Electric Actuators| Northern Tool + Equipment
And there are high lift capacity units of similar design out there too. One can also get an electric over hydraulic kit for about $600 that will lift several thousand lbs.

The downside is that electric over hydraulic can be quite taxing on the very small electrical system of a riding mower. I think the X700 series would have no issues since they have a true alternator, most with a 40 amp output. Riding mowers simply have the magneto producing maybe 10 amps. About 4 years ago when I lived in a different Province, my old neighbor at the time had a small electric over hydraulic dump trailer for his riding mower. He had run cables from the battery to the rear of the tractor with a connector so he could hook up quickly. He told me he always had issues with the tractor battery dying after a few hours of constant work. Lots of dumps put a strain on the very small battery and the already weak charging system. Obviously most people won't be dumping constantly for hours on end, but it is something to think about.

Makes me glad I bought an X7. I have an electrical system strong enough to handle anything I want to do, and the hydraulic system can be used for things like these carts. Now I just need to run outlets to the rear of my X740 and fabricate some kind of metal mounting plate for couplers. It never ends with these machines, keep the $ a secret from the wife!
