I appreciate the all the comments regarding the risks the OP created for himself but would not criticize the OP for doing it. He seems experienced and hopefully had a reasonable sense of the risks he put himself in. We work with potentially destructive machinery, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, chippers, etc., many of us use dangerous weapons, all of which always present a certain level of risk. Hopefully each of us has a reasonable sense of the risk, how far we are willing to push things (since risk is always there), measures to increase our safety, and keep learning. At the same time there is always unknown factors that could create unexpected results.

What he did in the video go beyond where I where I hopefully would be in the risk level scale but that is his choice. In choosing it is important to take into consideration not only the potential repercussions to ourselves but also to others that may be effected if things go wrong. Could anyone else be injured, are we creating higher risk for people we are working with or rescuers, what about impacts to family and friends, to people who depend on us for support, etc.

I do at times go beyond where others would go in the risk scale. I usually hike alone, often after dark, generally in areas where the terrain can be rough and/or steep, I hike in mountain lion and bear territory, etc. But it's what I love. I also take safety gear and have been doing it long enough that I have some sense of minimizing risk. Yet I am aware that this aging body with changing capabilities throw new uncertainties into the mix. It's all part of the adventure of being alive.

It is an interesting time to be discussing this in terms of the massive controversies regarding mask wearing, vaccines, social gathering, etc. Lots of different opinions and actions regarding risk. Just pointing it out, not taking a position, and not trying to start any arguments regarding this sensitive subject.

Seems like little is simple about being human.
That is exactly what I pointed it at.
The risks are inevitable for living life, even driving the car, riding the train, boarding the cruise etc.
That is the reason I uploaded the video for the members here for a reasonable sense of the risks of trimming the tree.
Appreciate your input.

I dont see what the OP did as being all that dangerous. We do stuff like that here & there for customers.
I would prefer to have a driver in the seat of the 410 to raise & lower the loader and help me should something happen. I guess the camera operator could be that person?

Yikes JKK -

Definitely NOT worth the risk! Like Eddie Walker, I'm a proponent of renting the proper equipment to get the job done safely. Our old house (circa 1860's) has original poplar siding, that needs to be washed bi-annually. I never felt really safe on ladders, so I rent a boomlift for my housewashing and any other hi-lift chores that I've accumulated. I rented from small rent-all places, but concluded that they just don't maintain them well enough for me to feel safe - now I only rent from professional contractor equipment firms - where they handle a volume of them and know how to maintain them well. After all, the purpose of shelling out the bucks is for my safety.

For elevated work that doesn't require a boomlift, I bought an aerial work platform (~$300) from Titan, that goes on my pallet forks. It's solid and depending on the project, I can usually lean it against where I'm working to mitigate any FEL cylinder slippage (or failure). I've tricked it out like a carry-all so I've got everything I need when up in it and I use it as a carryall when not doing aerial work with it.

Glad you made your post - it's just a reminder to work/operate safely. We all enjoy our quality tractor time - one bonehead move and your tractor time (and you) could expire.

Have fun and be safe!
