I stopped to visit my parents a bunch of years ago and planted their elephant garlic for them. I'd not heard of it till then. It product pretty flowers, but i'm not partial to it's flavour. I like hardneck more, but any garlic is better than none.

I agree. The Elephant Garlic is a bit too mild...but good!

I love chili, especially with lots of garlic and years ago when I was young (a long time ago) I made some chili from a recipe. The recipe called for 4 cloves of garlic and being new to cooking, I thought that a bulb was a clove. I can tell you that chili had a very pronounced garlic flavor. It was good but it produced some kind of defensive dome around me. Nobody would get close.:)

Four years ago I went on a garlic binge. A local farmer grew garlic along with other vegetables. Man - I included garlic on everything except ice cream. My son advised - "Dad, best you cut back on the garlic. You are beginning to smell like a spicy Italian sausage." I thought it was great and I felt great. He thought it was stinking up his house.

Garlic is very healthy!
I'm still laughing...stinking up the house.

AND I'll tell you - it wasn't just the garlic oil oozing out of ever port on my old hide. My FARTS would bring tears to a marble statue. I finally had to cut back - it became just too much for me also.

One of my uncles use to eat a handful of raw garlic every day, popped the whole handful in and chewed it down!

My grandfather used to slice a raw onion, add a little vinegar, salt and pepper, and eat it like a sliced tomato.

Now that's funny!!!
We used have to a clothing retailer (50 through the 70's) that was known for his store smelling like garlic. The closer you got to his location in the store the more of the garlic smell you would notice.
Some people joked that thier was no need to eat garlic, because you would get well if you just stepped inside his store!
Oh, but there were days when the you didn't dare step inside.

When spring rolls around I up my garlic intake. I try to get it up so I just barely have a smell (I ask my wife or BIL if I'm getting there), then back off a tad.
At that dosage usually black flies, no-see-ums, and mosquitoes may light, but not bite and most ticks crawl off.
