The Man in black

Now you got me, DFB. I don't know why, but I always had a problem with confusing Ferlin Husky with Faron Young. Don't know whether both of them recorded it or not. Now which one of them was known as the singing sheriff?

DFB,
I have no idea what happen to Roy Orbison wife...and the answer is. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Jerry Lee Lewis /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I would have never guess that one.

Okay than who was Jerry Lee Lewis cousin and a C/W star also star in a Clint Eastwood film.

-2 below and the wind has die down.

Have a pleasant night over there.

DFB, I'm sure you are right it was Faron Young, like Bird I get him mixed up with Ferlin Huskey.
Yea, I know Schertz, very close to Selma, which Steve Earle sings about, both are right off IH35 north of San Antonio. Turn around and go South about 30 miles from SA, and you find Devine TX, where George Strait came from. Moe Bandy grew up about two miles from where I now live, still has a big house there, although I hear he spends most of his time in Branson. Quite a few came from Texas. Dale Evans, who recently passed away, was from Uvalde.

That's what I thought; after his name was mentioned. Don't know why I always got those two mixed up.

Thomas, Jerry lee's cousin is Mickey Gilley. They also have another cousin, who was a popular preacher until he got caught in Louisianna a couple of times with a Hooker.

ErnieB, Jimmy Swaggert's a much better actor than his two cousins. My wife's brother went down there and installed a new telephone system for Swaggert several years ago - before Swaggert got caught. You should hear some of the stories he tells about that place. And he said they paid the bill ($250,000) with a suitcase full of cash.

Thomas,

-4 this mornin. Got the woodstove heatin' now.

About Roy Orbison, his first wife Claudette, was killed while they were riding motorcycles together back in 1966. Somehow I thought you might have known that.

He was from Texas too, grew up in a town called Wink.

On that movie question, there is an actor in the credits of Clint Eastwood movie his name is Geoffrey Lewis. That would seem the obvious answer, but for some reason I want to say it was Mickey Gilley.

George Strait. I didn't connect that. Now that's a guy who put out a few. A movie too. PURE COUNTRY. Not a bad actor either. Now, who knows the band's name? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

It appears from this discussion that I must be the only one on this board that listens to Metallica, Megadeth, and Alice in Chains, among other metal masters. Thanks guys, I was begining to feel old, having shelved my dream of a nice street bike for a tractor. TBN always cheers me up.

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

Johnny Cash was in the Air Force. What was speciality? i.e. what did he do when he was serving his country instead of singing it?/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I also heard today he is in the hospital. He is 68, hope he has a full recovery.

fishman, I'm not sure I've ever heard of those groups (or are they individuals?), but I have heard a little bit of something called "heavy metal" and you're tougher'n I am if you can stand that./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Cash back many years ago. He stopped in our little burg to grab some snacks at one of the local grocers. Man has that been a long time ago! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Nice guy also. Had plenty of time to visit.

I'll admit I favor acoustic instruments, but Have a wide range of musical interests. The problem I have with heavy metal is that it lacks melody. For some people I guess thats OK, myself I like a song with a good melody.

TWINKLE_TOES,

Cash was a Radio Intercept Operator.

Do you know what rank he held when he got out?

Was anyone fortunate enough to see "Red Nuckles and the Trail Blazers" before "Hot Rize" split up?

Red Nuckles did some fantastic classic country; they were just wonderful! Of course, as "Hot Rize", they were one of the best bluegrass bands around for a while there.
