Obed,
Can you find out what cable they use and buy and bury it yourself?

Brandi,
We tried asking Comcast those types of questions but got responses like "one of our engineers would need to answer that question.". Unfortunately we were never able to talk to an engineer. And thus the run-around. We decided that the phone co. that was very helpful would get our business.

Obed,
I understand. I would rather have a tooth fixed than deal with utility companies.

Brandi,
Looks like you are getting download/upload speed mixed up with how many MB of data you can download and up load per day or per month.
The old 9000 Modem plan I have with Hughes lets me download 350 MB per day. There is a one day cushion if you go over that and it is saved if you don't use it. There is nothing taken off the total MB for uploading at the present time.
Between 2 AM and 7 AM you can download as much as the speed at your place will give you with no charge against the daily limit.
None of the speeds are guaranteed and they do vary with weather as well as how much the satelitte is being used by other folks at the same time. ( same as cable ). Also varies with location and how well it was installed.
On the Gen 4 plan you could get up to 15 MBps speed and 40 GB per month data. That is an expensive plan.
the cheaper ones aren't as fast and don't have that much data.
I think, but am not sure yet, that you are charged for both up and down loads on the new plans. The free time may have been eliminated or shortened?
I imagine the home site has more details but I haven't looked. I figured Rick would let us know.

Pacer pretty much covered it covered it....

Old plan was $70 a month(1MBps). New plan is $100 a month - 15Mbps with 20 GB down load per month w/ another 20GB 2-8AM. I can say it's way faster then the old plan, but just shy of a regular fast DSL speed....I am happy with it. I just wonder if it will stay fast as more and more customers join the new sat...only time will tell.

Cell phone internet is not an option here yet.....we need several more towers to make it reliable and we are so sparsely populated Verizon has not been too keen to spend the $ on them yet.

I am having a heck of a time with the radios...can't log on to them to change the parameters....they still don't know they have a external antenna attached and are supposed to be in Bridge/Repeater mode. I downloaded their firmware update but can't open the file....grrrrrr. I am still stumbling around in the dark with this tech stuff....most of the advanced instructions might as well be written in Chinese.

wish me luck...going back off line........................

Well the tech coundn't figure it out, then I thought..."firewall"....turned it off and I was "in". I set both antenna's up in AP Repeater mode so they could talk to each other, and it actually works!
Antenna on quonset:

The radio(router)...there is one on each antenna:

On another note, I found this on Craigslist.....a ventless Propane fireplace insert with a cast iron surround and the 7' tall antique mantle came with it. Now I have to integrate it into the corner and cover up the flue from the basement & build a hearth around the base:

So does this mean you don't have to pay the $100 a month for access ? or are you just boosting the signal ?

No, just boosting/sending the signal 150 yards up the Mtn from the Quonset hut where the Hughesnet sat dish is located. From the Tree House this is how far the quonset w/ the other directional antenna is away:

On a sad note, we lost a calf during birth last night. It was a bull calf and he was way too big at about 120lbs. The vet had to come out and pull him out and he said he was 40 lbs overweight to get through the birth canal. The cow seems to be in good shape today and is up and feeding. I still have a lot to learn about cattle...sometimes it's not under the best of conditions. Even if the vet had been there at the beginning of contractions he doubted he could of saved him.

What a shame Motor...I lost a calf one time, it was winter with snow on the ground and really cold and we found him in the woods the next morning....Sorry for your loss.
