Haylage, rye and alfalfa are being cut this week and baled now. The tedder tines and disc & drum mower blades are rolling out the door. 16,000 sisal is what 90% of our customers use for round bales, at the rate of 4 tractor trailer loads a year.

Really on the sisal???? Here in southern Minnesota, I'll guess 90% of the round bales are plastic tied. Well, maybe 15% net, 75% plastic twine, & 10% sisal.

However, 95% of the small squares are sisal.

CCI what do you recommend we use on that new rebel? Sisal or poly?

Either works fine in the Rebel.

Which brand of sisal do you recommend?

I find that in my rebel the first bale of hay after swaping the twine balls will not wrap completely. The twine breaks with some brands. The twine appears to not be feeding properly and so with the bale pulling on it it snaps. So you have to stop and re-feed the twine to finish off the bale.

After the first bale or two end of problem and it feeds great.
Its kind of a pain to have to feed the twine three times just to make it work properly......

The largest supplier of sisal twine in the USA is Frank W. Winne. They sell under the name Clover & Mustang. We sell Clover and Vermeer in the green colored twine. The green twine seems to be uniform and come out of the ball with less problems than the natural colored twine. Most the premium twine sold in the USA is from Brazil. Portuguese and African sisal twine is great twine but we do not see much of it here in the USA. Twine from Mexico is not on par with most Brazilian twine because the Mexican twine is made from hemp fibers that are rougher than sisal fibers. At one time New Holland twine was noted for being the best available but now New Holland uses Mexican and low end Brazilian mills and does not have the consistency it once had.
