They say another storm is coming thru. Perhaps some of the impoundments will recover.

Very nice. I enjoy rainbows. We had one at work a couple months ago. Very nice double. A coworker commented that it's rare to see a double rainbow. I told him I see at least a dozen a year, if not more. He said he doubted me on that. Pretty much anytime it rains in the afternoon, we get rainbows. We've both lived in the same area for 60 years.

I told him he needs to get outside and look up once in a while.

For the first 11 1/2 months of this year we had 1.92” of rain. In the past 2 weeks we had 2”. Go figure.

Interesting - three weeks ago we had 5 in one day. Quite a sharp contrast. Nice picture.

Just finally got to my CA property. Power still out (day 5.) 18" of snow is left-- it was about 2 feet. Pond nearly full and will top the spillway soon. Next storm coming Tuesday. My next problem will be managing the runoff when it starts coming over the pond spillway.

Weather people say: "if no more storms this season, this is no better than last year!" Oh, BALONEY! Last season, the highest my pond ever got was 2 feet below the spillway. And that was after a full winter season, plus spring-time diversion of about 40,000 gals/day of water into it for a couple of months.

This is a very good water year in Northern CA.

It's never a good rain year in California.
We had a 7 year drought in late 80's and I was working knee-deep in mud when it came over the radio that the drought had ended.
Sacramento wasn't hit as bad by the drought as Sothern Cal but because we were in the state capital, we had to have a drought! The voters in LA needed to be kept happy!

I used to joke about the weatherman holding a rain gauge under his umbrella.....

Ya, that about sums it up.

I've noticed recent local forecasts in Northern Nevada show hi and lo temps that are not records, since the record highs and lows were 20, 30, 40, 50, and more years ago.

High the other day in Nevada was 33F, low of 18. Record high for that date was 65F-- more than 50 years ago. Record low was -4, about 35 years ago. So I guess "unusual" weather is not all that unusual-- at least for particular dates.

And the conditions in N. CA are widespread-- so I'm (thankfully) hoping to see the dams and reservoirs coming up a bunch between now and late spring. :D :D

We're at 31 inches for this rain year. Last year it was 23 for the whole year. So we're already better than last year. 45-50 is "normal".

The ground can only soak up rain so fast. A lot of rain in a short time like we got in December means more of that rain runs off and ends up in ponds and reservoirs.

Plowhog do you have power? A friend in Grass Valley has been out for six days,

Power been out 6 days at our CA property. PGE says 10% of 16,000 customers without power will get restored this weekend. The rest are between 3 days and 2 weeks out.

We visited yesterday to check for storm damage. Stayed 1 night without power, brrr.

All the roads there have downed trees-- everywhere. But we only lost one limb out of a big oak tree. Very unusual-- the last big storm like this one downed so many trees I decided to buy a sawmill.
