I've kind've been expecting this:

-----------------------

What happens when people want all the air fryers and then, suddenly, they don't

www.npr.org.ico
NPR|48 minutes ago
Big box stores are working through an unexpected glut of inventory: TVs, kitchen appliances, hoodies and other hot pandemic items. Part of the problem is the bullwhip effect.

--------------

Demand outweighed supply and drove prices up. Manufacturers responded by ordering more stuff that people wanted. Now there's more stuff than what people need.

Will we see the same with motor vehicles and tractors? Will there be more supply sitting on lots than people are buying? Will I be able to get a better than anticipated deal on the refrigerator I need? What will happen to used car/truck and tractor prices?

I quite like my air fryer; my fat arse doesn't need a deep fryer, and baking fries takes any and all enjoyability out of them.

With regards to the actual article, I can't help but think a lot of this is heading our way.

The other part of the problem is the amount of spending due to new found wealth effect and/or unexpected windfall. People tend to spend money when they get that unexpected windfall like the stimmy checks. Now that those are pretty much spent and consumers are feeling pinched by increased prices on pretty much everything due to inflation and higher fuel costs, consumers are reducing spending.

FWIW, I like my air fryer and not having to clean up used cooking oil.

I value the opinion of NPR right down there with MSNBC. It's like, who cares?
They sometimes have things worth listening to. Just today they had somebody on explaining how unhealthy my gas stove is; all of the CO1 and benzene that it emits into the house. Also, the pilot light which puts methane into the air 24 hours per day whether I use it or not. I was all ready to rip it out when I got home tonight... until I remembered that my stove has electronic ignition rather than pilot lights, and that nice stainless steel hood I bought ejects all of the gases he states out into the air.
Plus when the power goes out I can light the burners with a match, instead of relying on my microwave. ;)

You must have one of those propane-powered microwaves or something. Mine doesn't work when the power's off.

As far as air fryers go, maybe it's just that everybody who wants one has one. Someone gave us one a few years ago, we used it once or twice but it was more of a PITA than it was worth. Noisy, and one of those things that no matter where you stored it it was in the way. Gave it away.

I was wondering how long before somebody caught that. ;) Like plugging in your electric blanket and crawling into bed until the power comes back on. Not that my power goes out very often, but I do like my wood heat and propane cook stove.

I'm not big on small appliances like air fryers or bread makers. I do admit that I sometimes think about replacing my toaster which died a few years ago.

If you want to see the best examples of poor planning along with a lot of very poor science (gee I wonder why)

Because of idiot moves by all the greenies and the idiot leader from a couple administrations ago...
look at all the piles and piles of both worthless solar panels and worthless wind generators and their superstructures etc...that are slated for landfills because the idiot powers that be back then had no insight or forethought...

On our drive last week up north we got a good look at various windmills along I35. In Kansas and Texas only 10% or less were actually moving (very windy day). Oklahoma had more like 75% spinning away. There is a big solar installation between FtW and the TX-OK line. Hard to tell if they work better in the heat, but I know they do nothing in the dark!

Can you expand on this?

Edit: Or "expound" would be good also. :)

The article is nothing new. Supply chain is always going to have highs and lows. The companies don't know what products are going to sell well and what won't. They can't predict the weather to know the number of snowblowers to make.

Someone mentioned cars. There was a great article a few months back detailing how and why they expect the used car market to tank. It was completely logical. The used vehicle prices rose 42% while new vehicle prices were only 8%. New vehicles weren't available so people fought over the used. Once new vehicles are able to catch up to the demand, there will be a flood of used vehicles on the market and that current bubble will pop.

NPR does sometimes put out good articles, but they almost always have a narrative that you're suppose to buy into. The natural gas industry is an enemy of the people that want you to be 100% controlled by electric power. NYC is not allowing new gas hookups.

You think business, just because it's "green" isn't going to have the tax payer do all their clean up, just like all the other businesses? How quaint.

My point was that there was no forethought into what to do with obsolete materials etc...right now all that so called green energy hardware is ending up in landfills because there was no plans to recycle...

And housing ....

Housing Market Decline Begins as Consumer Confidence Crashes

New single-family home sales have dropped to their lowest level since April 2020.

U.S. Facing 'Perfect Storm' for 2008-Like Housing Crisis: Economist

Economist Jose Torres predicted that within the next few years, housing prices could drop up to 25 percent.

Some people were paying stupid prices and I don't feel sorry if they get screwed.

Maybe it'll get lumber back to the sane area.
It already is, for people who don't expect to pay third world prices.
I think that most of us knew that the housing market would slow eventually; nothing ever stays hot forever.
Regulations put in place after the 2008 crunch hopefully kept as many people from getting upside down on their mortgage, which is what led to the 2008 crash.
