Working outside this weekend? In honor of Womenç—´ History Month, todayç—´ featured image is the farmerettes of the Womenç—´ Land Army of America. From 1917 to 1919, the Womenç—´ Land
Army of America brought more than 20,000 city and town women to he countryside to take over farm work after men were called to war.

The farmerettes plowed fields, drove tractors, planted and harvested. They were paid wages equal to male farm laborers and soon became wartime icons. Most significantly, like the Rosie the Riveters a generation later, these women challenged thinking about traditional gender roles.
