Congratulations and I agree, dealers make the whole difference.

I typically don't nickel and dime over a small amount of $$ with a dealer I won't go back to.
Fact is you'll get better service from a dealer you buy from period.

My dealer gives me good deals but I might be able to squeak a better deal at another dealer. But he'll come out (about an hour), pick up my tractor bring in the tractor for service, bring it back, and never charge me a nickel for that extra service. Never mind the fact that he's very responsive when I ask him about anything.

I won't even look either. I'll go back to them in a heartbeat when/if I buy another tractor. Saving $200 at another dealer wouldn't be worth it in the long run.

I'm really curious to find out just how low it is set at.

I wish I would have checked mine before adding shims. I have been curious to, but was needing the tractor so did not take the time.

When I did add shims I hooked up a pressure gauge . I purchased 2 packs of shims, adding 1 pack + the second to the thinnest of the other. Working the valve with the engine running at 2000 RPM caused the needle to swing up to 2700 psi then quickly drop to 2400 psi where it would stay. did not take pictures of gauge on tractor but here it is on table.

I was wondering about that guage setup. I have bought the shims for my JD790, but have not yet got the guage or fittings to hook it up (been hoping to borrow somebody's). Do you need to have a flow-though setup as shown in your pic? Or, could you simply have a "dead-end" gauge and then operate the valve to read the pressure?

Deadheading into the gauge is fine, there is no need to Tee it into the system. Here is a picture of mine.

For sixty bones at the JD dealer I couldn't see hunting the fittings for the gauge setup. maybe I'm lazy but I want it done. Pickin it up in the AM

I only used fittings because 1. this would only need to be done once 2. they were cheap 3. it left me with a set of couplers if I should ever need them. The pressure reading was taken deadhead. I did not hook the loader up when doing this. My wife operated the valve while I watched the gauge. Purchased the gauge and fittings from Burden Sales Surplus Center on line, then got the couplers at JD.

The Surplus Center does not have my gauge any more but here one that will work (Costs more than mine did) + the fittings used.

I see no reason why it would not work-you just need a 0-3000 psi gauge...but finding adapters to get it hooked up wouldn't be worth the trouble when a new gauge is under $20.00.

LOL.....No problem. My local farm store has the guage for about 14 bucks and has most of the fittings...but they don't carry the small Pioneer couplers. I just need to buy another coupler and get off dead center on this pretty soon. Need to make a trip to the JD store.

I want to find out the pressures before and after....as others have suggested.
