Just listening to Doris Day on the radio. Beautiful music, Does any of you have pics from there.
I listen to the music, but am not able to image what it looks like there.

Is she refering to the Black Hills of South Dakota? It's where Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Sturgis, Custer State Park and dozens of others.

Try South Dakota Tourism -- Travel Information for the Mount Rushmore State or do a search for any of those words.

Steph and I are planning on going there this July. It's my favorite place in the entire country to visit.

Just a few to show the variety or terrain you'd see. I think you need to come visit the states 1948berg, but be aware - it's a BIG place! :)

Great Pictures!! Thanks for sharing.

I haven't been there in about 7 or 8 years and I'm really excited about going this year. Steph has never been, so that makes it even more exciting for me!!!!

Where did you stay? I've always had an RV when I've been there and stayed in Custer State Park. Nothing better than walking out the door and seeing a herd of Bison walk by.

We're thinking of staying at one of the lodges in the Park, but haven't decided on anything yet.

For an historic look at SD you might like to read Rolvaag's Giants in the Earth. This relates the experience of Norwegian pioneers who settled SD, late 1870's. Living was hard and in the first years they suffered considerably in that harsh climate so far from civilization.

Here are some links to reviews of Rolvaag's works.

I was reminded of that book when I recently copied photos of Grandmother when she was a new bride, wintering in Leadville Colorado (10,500 ft elevation) where Grandfather was a mining engineer about 1905. Family stories relate her using an axe to break ice to start the morning coffee and various other hardships she probably hadn't appreciated before they moved there. (His previous post had been Death Valley but I think he over-reacted!)

I was just out that way this past September. I absolutely feel in love with the sites when I was out there. I was actually in Broadus, Montana on an antelope hunt and tagged out on the second day so I had some free time and did quite a bit of site seeing. If you have a chance I would also check out Devils Tower in Wyoming. Not all that far, it is really something to see. I got to see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sturgis, Deadwood. I am planning another hunt for 2008 and if I may tag out early agian and then get to see more of the Black Hills.
