That is how we use to put the basket ball hoops up and down in the gym in high school too.

It was the drill taking 10 minuets or a hand crank and about an hour.

Most people won't get the connection, but as soon as I saw that picture I had a flash-back to the last time I tried to crank start a Model-A.

Oh the bad memories..
When I was almost 16 I started my first job at a metal fabricating business.
Got handed one of those drills and told to drill a big hole in a thick plate, yup, the bit stuck and dang near wrenched my arms out of my shoulders

Was sore for days, never forgot it.

When I was about 14 or 15 I was trying to hand crank our WC Allis Chalmers. It kicked back and hit me in the chest. I laid on the ground for awhile before getting up luckily only bruised but thinking how glad I was it didn't hit me in the face. Dad soon got rid of it and got an H Farmall with a starter. Still liked the WC better as a tractor.

A model A what? Deere or Farmall? I hand start John Deere A's, B's, and H's all the time. That's the side start. Now, the front cranks had alot of kickback, such as our Allis Chalmers B, now that's rough!
