Texas Star Bed

In the past I have made several furniture items out of wood. This is my first attempt at making furniture out of metal. This is a king size bed I made over the last 2 weeks in spare time. The wife had been wanting this for a while so after the bath room was complete I started this project. It's nothing super fancy, but that's what she wanted. She had see something like this in a shop somewhere before and described it to me. Her vision and my grunt work. Just the way I like it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Picture #2 is with the ornamental iron installed. A lot of the metal I already had. Had to by the 3" 11 guage square tubing for the posts, a little more 2" 14 guage square tube for the top/bottom rails, and some 2 1/2" channel for the slats.

I was going to use 2" channel for slats but 2 1/2" was 15 cents a foot cheaper. Also with the 2 1/2" I only needed 3 slats instead of 4.

Picture #4. All cleaned up, loaded and headed to powder coat. It will be getting a copper vaining finish. Should be back late this week. Will post pictures of the bed in it's final resting place then.

Looks good James. If you come over this week we can have you practice making star stones. Make great night stands, drawers are a bear though........

Harvey, I've got to stop by King's Wednesday morning after work. If your going to be around the shop I will stop by. I'm planing on making some night stands, but my gate comes next! It's time to put some icing on this fence cake. That way I can post some picture of all the pointers you gave me.

While you're there James check out the brass balls in the markdown area. They quoted me twenty five apiece. But man they'd make a great something!

If I'm not at the shop I'll be at the rock gate installing the star rock etc.

I've got this real hair up you know what to carve out a boot, just for grins, them smiles don't come cheap!

James, it looks like we were topping off our post with the same type of balls at the same time. Great job on the bed. What color/s are you going to paint it?

RaT, Texas is the Lone star state. But, just as hotels have star ratings Texas wifes rate their beds. An eight star bed is something to be proud of! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I imagine more stars will be added after the mattress is in place. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
