Tdog, Interesting web site. I see we are only in a moderate drought area, not as bad as I thought. It clouded up this afternoon, but was only a tease. I just watched the weather and they say we have a really good chance thursday./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Looks like Bird will get some too.

Kubmech, you must be staying in the downtown area. As far as bugs, no place I've ever been has been equal to Viet Nam. Not only was there a quantity, but some of the biggest darn things I have ever seen/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Fly into Kelley AFB. Sometimes we get lucky and stay down town. Most of the time there's room on base and the shuttle runs us downtown for dinner. But since Kelley is pretty much closed now, may not get their as often, too bad, always enjoyed it. Have'nt been to Vietnam yet, We do have a mission their from time to time to "repatriate" remains. I personnaly have'nt had the honor yet.

Yea, Last week, or maybe it was the week before. I saw the offical closing ceremony on the news. So I guess Kelly is no more. I grew up near there in Southwest Bexar County, back in the days when jets didn't have to go so high to break the sound barrier. Lots of booms in those days/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Knew alot of people who worked or were stationed there. Hard to beleave it's gone.
It's Academic, but I have wondered if I had the chance would I go back to Viet Nam. Really, I had it pretty good there, some of the country is very scenic. Might be interesting to visit the places where we lived and worked. See what it looks like now.

Ernie, I didn't know, until I saw that closing ceremony on the TV news, that Kelly was the longest continuously operating base in the country.

I figured it was either Kelly or Brooks. I know the first Army aircraft were at Fort Sam, and I guess as the planes got bigger they needed more room to land and take off. The only thing Brooks has left is the Aerospace Medical Center. It's been on the hit list a couple of times, but somehow survived.
