Yellow jackets are vicious, particularly in the fall when they are putting meat in the larder. They can sting multiple times, and hope you die so they can tear parts of you off to feed larvae over the winter. Fortunately, our black bears don't like them either, and will dig up the nests and eat them.
We have the ground dwelling yellow jackets in this area also. Around here it is the skunks that will dig them up and eat them. Because of that I really don't mind having a few skunks around.

I've posted this before, but it bears posting again. If you get stung by a bee or a wasp, if you will take a couple drops of juice from an onion and put it on the sting, it will almost instantly kill the pain. Yeah, I was skeptical too, until I tried it. I was amazed! It won't lessen the swelling or hasten the healing as far as I know, but it will kill the pain. No kidding!
I got stung in the palm of my hand with a bumble bee that I was brushing off my pants (I was mowing; thought it was a blossom from our Rose of Sharon) when it nailed me. My 90 year old Dad told me about the onion, and I thought it was an old wive's tale, but it was painful enough I was willing to try..and it really worked!
Hopefully I will not need that info but good to know, just in case.

Those ground dwelling yellow jackets...or hornets or what ever they are called, and vicious. I was stung twice on the ankle; they left awful wounds and they left some pretty noticeable scars. I had to soak my foot in Epsom salts water so I could get my shoe on.

Again, a friend of ours was whacking weeds in his yard and got into those ground wasps. He walked into the house and passed out. Awoke three days later in intensive care and he wasn't even allergic to them. Today we carry epi pens with us while into the field because we get a few stings evey summer, will catch up with us.. But if you get stung enough, you die weather you are "allergic" to them or not.

Way back when I was about 18, I was working for an east Tx farmer after school, this day running a Ford 4000 with a mower behind. My assignment was to mow this field. I was about the middle when I felt the first sting, and by the time I looked down at the back of my hand where it happened, I was swarmed by bumble bees. I had run over a ground nest. I managed to get away with only a dozen or so stings, and when I finished that field, I'd left a small patch out there at the location of the hive. The farmer told me I would not get dinner or a shower [he provided this] nor would I get paid, until I went back out there and finished. What I did was to get the tractor and mower lined up right and hit the gas and race across that patch, somehow not flipping the machinery over. The bees were flying all over that area but none got me that time

Nice farmer! Gee whiz.

Hope you found better employers.

I was walking under my willow tree last year looking at the pond and frogs next to it. All of a sudden I felt a painful sting and followed by a burning sensation on the top of my head. I am very hard of hearing so I didn't hear any buzzing...so I thought I was having an aneurism. Started walking towards the house and bam, another one on the top of my head, I panicked, started running to the house heart beating rapidly.

I calmed down and realized if I had an aneurism I probably wouldn't feel it like that and why was it only hurting my scalp LOL.

Went back down and carefully looked around...that's when I saw it-was hidden in the lower branch of the weeping willow tree-a nest twice the size of a basketball. I walked right beneath it and never saw it....it was a bald faced hornets nest.

I destroyed it the next day.

Baldfaced hornets can be downright nasty.

How do you extract juice from an onion?
