Dennis, I heard many years ago that when Texas A&M (Aggies) first received astro-turf for their football field that they called the manufacturer with a question about installation. They were told to install it with the green side up.

Bird,
That was an old Aggie joke morphed into an astroturf joke.

I ran the hose for about 7 hours last night and raised the pond level about 6 inches. My pond is about 30 x 70 when full, but Vs rather deep fast, down to 12 feet, so there was not much area to raise the level.

I just ran outside to see (what I thought was) a large multi engine Round engine airplane, I heard fly over. It was not an airplane, but a helicopter. Not just any helicopter, but the Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane Y'all have been seeing, on television, flying water drops on the fires. By the directiion it was flying, it had just left Montgomery County Airport and headed west, towards the Riley Road fire.

You're going o get that pond full and that helicopter is gonna come scoop all your water out o put on the fires. :p

If her mobile home is a later model she probably does. Some folks get mad at the devices for leaking, etc. and take them off.
In the country you only kill your own family on a well, but in the city there is usually a fine, after the fact like if there is a house fire and the pressure is drawn down by the hydrants releasing lots of water causing a siphoning action.
She may be surprised by the bill too, and how the no use level applies to filling swimming pools and ponds.
Willis Utilities

Ron,
Now this is the cat's meow. You, trying to find my water bill restrictions. Is that all you have to do? Do you really think I would live any where near or in the city limits. Just because I say I am from Willis, doesn't mean I get their utilities.

Texas is a big state and has large unincorporated areas just so we can get away from nosy neighbors.

:laughing::laughing: They can't do that. A high line is crossing my pond. Besides........Lake Conroe is between me and the Riley Road fire. Compared to a stock tank pond, my pond is more like a back yard pond on steriods.
Also, I only water to get the water level, at the island, backup to around 4 feet, so the cats have enough cooler water down lower.

I just saw this on CNN website. Plane appears similar to the MARS that Brandi posted, although smaller, 2-prop. Apparently operating on fires in Texas.

I just saw the video. It didn't work earlier. It is a CL215. Love the sound of mutli Round engines. Better that a gaggle of harleys.:D

If I got one, I could keep it moored in Lake Conroe or parked at Montgomery County Airport.

As we say in the sticks, you sound like you are 'hunkered' down. :D

Here's a 2 minute version where the cameraman is positioned to give a much better view of the touch and go. You can save it if you have the free Real Player installed and play it back clearly at full screen.

That is a good video Ron. I just wonder how long the run on the water was? It looked like 3000' or less to me. Then, he powered up and got airborne in a hurry.

Well, they closed down hwy 287 north of Bowie this afternoon. When my wife was on the way home, she saw fire trucks from Flower Mound, Haslet, Roanoke, and N. Richland hills heading north to fight the fires. I don't know how much it is contained, if any. It started west of 287 and jumped it right away going east. I'll post back more when I hear more.

You're right, Brandi.:D Aggie jokes were common some years ago.

Heck Bird,
I was raised by an Aggie. Dad was in class of '44. But he went into bombers with Uncle Sam in '42. Dad never went back, but I was differently raised as an Aggie. Almost took Aerospace Engieering at TAMU.

And Brandi, most of the dozens of Aggie jokes I learned came from Aggies I worked with.

Jim,
How far is that from you?

I said into the pond, but the end of the hose was a foot above the water level. Why do you ask if I have an anti-siphon device on the end of the hose?
hugs, Brandi

Brandi,
The hose bib is the house end.

Jim,
The clock on RP shows about 19 seconds.
No way to know how much water he got on that run.

Big fire on the west side of Houston near hwy 6 and I-10 inside the George Bush park. 6pm local news had a overhead view. Looks to be only the park area for now.
