For me it is supposed to be 105* by Tuesday, Then back to the 90's. Nice thing, we have a 20% chance of rain Thursday and Friday. Maybe I should wash my tractor Friday morning to up the chances?

101 degrees here again today. Too hot to do much, but I did water the yard all morning and got my new Texas rain gauge installed, as you can see.

I see Bird. You can calibrate it with an eye dropper. One drop, two drops, three drops.:laughing:

NativeSon,

Great videos. I will probably use the one from the Texas Forest Service for future training. I am often an assistant instructor and have helped teach many S130 classes. I always have students who can not fathom just how fast a outside fire can move, how it makes its own weather, and how explosive conditions can get when it is that dry. I myself watched a brush truck get overtaken on a field fire on a few occasions. I also was fortunate enough to watch it create its own weather and literally jump from tree to tree with spot fire being created a mile in front of itself. That was actually along the applachian trail. That was probably the fastest I have seen fire move in my career. My experience were fortunate as I was able to bein the right place at the right time with no one else being harmed. The shot of the air tanker was impressive. I have only been around small helicopters, national gaurd helicopters and smaller plains like the M18 dromader.

The wife and I looked at the pics of the drought. We could not believe the devastation it is causing and until you see the pictures it is really hard to fathom. They ought to store water up this way and truck it to you all there. We have definately have more then we need. I do not really have any words for the drought you all are facing.

You're a bit of an optimist aren't you Bird? I think your gauge is upside down.

I know where many of the photos in the link are. I still feel my 25 acres is one of the "most behind" in normal precipitation as anywhere.

:thumbsup::laughing::laughing: Jim, that was a good'n:D

Bird I hope the possible 20% Frday and Thursday keeps you running to dump that gauge a million times, maybe that would be a couple inches:laughing:

We will break another record tomorrow (Tuesday) Rec is 100, should hit 105 in DFW. We broke the temp record today (Monday) and also the number of 100 + days in a year (70):(

and my fish. I think it will be about $5 per thousand gallons.

It's about the same in California when you add everything and divide by the number of gallons.

Not too long ago, the water bills were a few dollars a month... well maybe 30 years ago.

Just paid one for 15,000 gallons at $105 with treatment charges.

It's going to get worse. Twenty years from now kids in school will hear that Americans used to use water to dispose of feces and shake their heads like kids do today at the thought of life without a computer.

Harvey, when that day rolls around, we may have green carpet for lawns and artificial shrubs/flowers. Easily the #1 use of water is landscape watering. Sanitary sewers account for only a small amount of the total use. I think we may still use water for sanitary purposes in 20 years, but it will probably all be treated/purified and returned directly to our water supply.

Jim, about 34 years ago, when I bought a new house, I actually checked on the feasibility of putting down astroturf instead of grass for the lawn.:laughing: Needless to say, I didn't do it.:laughing:

Ours is $15 for the 1st 1000 and then $3.20 a thousand after that ... I have thought about doing the same.

2 Weeks ago they talked about this on the news! Said with the new fake turf, allot of people are replacing grass with the new stuff. They interviewed a wealthy couple some where in the mid cities I think it was and showed the crew installing the "grass". The fake grass looked pretty darn good in their yard. Technology has come along way from astro-turf, but the installer said it only last 7-10 years and it isn't cheap. I'll go native grass and "more" weeds if comes to that:)
