Yesterday morning, my wife showed me a tick on the little Chihuahua. Of course, I removed it. But she turned 9 years old last week and this is the first time she's ever had a tick on her. And I don't know whether she could have gotten it in our yard, or on our nearly daily walks in the woods in a nearby park, or maybe elsewhere. Last Sunday we visited a new house and lawn that our daughter and son-in-law were moving into a couple of hundred miles south of here; new house, new development in what has been a pasture. And the last time we had a tick problem was when we moved into a new house in a new development in what had been a pasture many years ago in the Dallas area.

Our dog is an outdoor farm dog and our property is surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods.
Every year but this year, we would have to pinch ticks off of him every day even though we have tried many different
products. This year we used one with "Fipronil" as the main active ingredient and even though we still checked him everyday for ticks during the love em', pet em' sit on the porch glider with em' period, we never found one tick on him.
Still plenty of fleas, but that's another yarn...:)

Ron, we lived out in the boondocks in Navarro County about 8 years and never saw a tick or flea in all those years. The theory (which I believe) was that we had so many fire ants that they promptly destroyed any tick or flea.

What I've found on the web sounds like "Revolution" is for the same purpose as the "Trifexis" our dog is on. Trifexis is supposed to prevent fleas and other parasites, so I thought it should prevent ticks from attaching to her, but it obviously did not.

I saw a hay field yesterday, between here and Willis, that was just cut. Wow, a November cutting!

Dang still baling that hay, that's good. I have so much hay even after I sold around 200bales I'm good for next year. Depending on how next year is may run some more cows on the 30acre meadow and go with only the 45 and push the fertilizer to it.

It has definitely seemed like Winter here, just south of Denton, today; stayed in the 30s all day, cloudy with mist. I went to the grocery store this morning and had to just occasionally let the windshield wiper give one wipe. And about 3 p.m., I went out and poured about .10" of water out of the rain gauge. And now the NWS says a 40% chance of rain/snow/sleet tonight with a low of 23.

I'm trying to identify this new plant. It is the first one I have seen on our property. It came up in a place where I had dug down about four feet. It is either a very old seed that I uncovered or a very new seed from a bird. Can anyone identify this bean pod type plant, it has survived the freeze and has a tiny flower on top left.

Good to see you around here, pacerron!

Fipronil will kill the fleas on a dog, but doesn't repel them. So it looks like it does nothing, if they keep picking up more.

Spent a 4 day weekend out of State a couple of weeks ago. First away from home vacation in quite some time. Had a blast, and the flying was awesome!!

I'm sick of the cold weather already!!

Good to see you on here as well.
We have 3" of snow on the ground and with the wind chill it is minus 10 outside in these parts.
