Charlie,
Are we talking a dragnet here?

Brandi,
No he'll be showing up at the front gate about the time you start to look for him. His advanced training has conditioned him to seek the inbound beacon as it gets dark.

Ron, I'd give my left . . . earlobe to work on that new laser weapon they are putting on US Navy ships.

Wonder how that would work for moles:scratchchin:

FG,
Where do you think pilots learned it? There were Fleet Sailors long before there were 90 day wonder pilots.
Come to think of it I thinke we taught the Marines too.

Charlie

Charlie, My BIL retired M Chief, he said pilots that aren't Navy are sissy's because they have so seamen!:confused3::D I think he was a "wizzo", I will have to ask.

Black shoe sailors just home in on the signal flags that the ship's skivvie wavers have hoisted up on the mast, right Charlie?:)

Dennis, I just order soaker hoses from Amazon. The Gilmour flat weeper hoses are far superior to any other. Of course, they are more expensive too, but after 3 or 4 years, they'll seem cheaper. You can order them in 25', 50', and 75' lengths. You can easily build a matrix that is visible from space.

BTW: Don't be surprised if you find the Gilmour soakers at HD or Lowes cheaper than Amazon. They also have a clone at Harbor Freight, but I've never used them.

I bought 5 of the ones at Harbor Freight (the only 3 the Denton store still had and 2 from the Carrollton store); they showed regular price of $11.49, on sale for $7.99. I was in the Denton Home Depot this morning and they had the Gilmours for $9.97 each. They "look" to be the same thing.

I cut up a couple of the ones I bought and put new couplers on the ends to get the lengths I wanted. They're woven nylon sleeve over what looks like a solid plastic inside. You do have to have 1/2" couplers. I don't know whether you've ever tried to find 1/2" couplers or not, but I've never found any at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, or Ace Hardware (although you can order them online from Ace Hardware). But yesterday I found the 1/2" Gilmour brand at Turner Hardware in Farmers Branch.

Bird, I like the 50', fit good for 50' rows in my garden taking account for the walkways. Cant believe 1/2" are that hard to come by, what is the most popular 5/8" isn't it?

/ Texas Fall/Winter thread! #5,446
Yep, Dennis, everyone has the 5/8" couplers and repair kits, but not the 1/2".

Jim,
Somebody does hang a lot of laundry up there in the riggin'. I never understood what all of it meant.

Dennis,

Navy Pilots are a little full of themselves(except those rainy nights and they're having to launch with green water breaking over the bow). They consider themselves BB Fighter Pilots, but most were pretty good guys and like all Sailors.........just looking for a good time.

A Fleet Sailor will get his paycheck and he'll spend 1/3 of it on Booze, and 1/3 of it on women, and the other 1/3 he'll spend foolishly.

Before 911, all Southwest had on our uniforms was the nautical flag symbols that represented SWA.:) After 911, we have, on our uniforms, Southwest Airlines, our name, and our title:(...........which they changed from A&P Mechanic to AMT.........Aviation Maintenance Technician:mad:But I still call myself an A&P Mechanic.:D I was proud to have known and worked with a few mechanics that didn't have an A&P license, but an A&E license:salute:.

Brandi,
He was trying to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.........it was the train.(old punch line from an old guy). He was quick of foot enough to avoid the train, however.

He could roll out hose when he leaves the Ranch and just roll it back up to find his way back home. With the amount of hose he has he could roam a very large area.

Had my Echo-cardiogram yesterday afternoon:thumbsup: Doc says the pumper looks great for my age and can see no irregularities. Said the muscle balance was of a 30 year old:thumbsup::thumbsup: Of course he scolded me for smoking over the years, but said for a smoker, my ticker was in better shape than he expected and I should take advantage of it. Was cool watching the valves working LOL Have another check up in 6 months, so in the mean time I will try to work on my diet:thumbdown: He said I have a better than normal diet, I need to cut out allot of fats and sweets and eat more regularly.

They have another test I would like to get done, but since my insurance sucks and out of pocket is now $6500, I have to budget med care for the 1st time. The test measures anticipated plaque build up in the arteries by taking measurements of veins in the neck, then apply s the findings to known #'s of average people. Wish I could remember the name of the test..Don??

Mentally I'm stoked, after moms ordeal, I was a tad concerned since I have abused myself over the years:laughing: Of course the cardiologist said he wouldn't guarantee I don't "drop tomorrow", but said it would be very unlikely.

Cold 20* this morning and I'm am almost ready to go over to FG's side of the fence, I 'm ready for better weather so I ca get back to work!

Denis, I never had that test. I just had the scan that measures the calcium build-up in arteries of the heart. From what I have learned everyone has some plaque the key is how much and how fast it is accumulating and how stable it is. As long as it dose not break off or block more than about 80% you can live kind of comfortably. However More plaque build-up equals less activity. At the 30-40% range it has the greatest risk of becoming dislodged and causing a heart attack as it is not as stable as a 80% build-up. Your out of pocket is about the same as mine, sometime I think I'm better off just saving the money and pay cash for health service.

We had a total of .6" rain and it's 32˚ this morning.

Don, your thinking the same as us about insurance. We pay $600+ a month, so before we get any benefit from our insurance, we would have to spend close to 14k, then only benefit to 80% the rest of the 12 month period (based on monthly payment+ deductible) We are thinking we could bank the monthly fee as a "healthcare fund" and look into catastrophic care insurance. I sucks since Obamacare, our rates increased and now we have a deductible for the 1st time. We also lost our medication coverage, so out of pocket there too.

To add to that, my wife's work, cut all pay by 3% when the law passed in anticipation of their increased cost, so we pay so some one else can "play for free" IMO

Ditto on what you said about Plaque. Wish I could remember the test, it is fairly new and the Doctor felt it would really help in early detection. I will get that test next, but will try to find out the name again.

Dennis,
Glad you got good results.
Did they do a "hs-CRP" blood test on you during the prelims?
For those of us who have normal and really great total cholesterol readings on a lousy diet, it can reveal if you have inflammation in your system. Of course that can be caused by a multitude of conditions including arthritis which I recall you said you had in your back. A cheap test. Some doctors, will prescribe a statin as a preventative to heart attacks if your CRP is high and cholesterol normal or low. Statins have gotten a bad rap lately as over prescribed but usually by the same group that believe in changing all the lubricants in their tractor 3 times a year with less than 100 hours use, if you know what I mean.:confused2:
Like he said: all the poking, prodding, and test results don't guarantee a thing.
My treadmill has a fitness test program that says I'm like a 55 year old but I sure don't feel like it and can't work like it anymore.

Ron, I had that a while back (the last round of test a few years ago, also had contrast and that sucked!) Doc didn't think I needed it this time. I don't have arthritis, closer to Stenosis in 4 vertebrae. Some days I can go all day, but if I stand in the same spot for 5 minutes, it gets aggravated. I am young for stenosis, so they think it is deterioration from some bone loss and/or injuries while young or a combination of things. All's I know it's the worst constant pain I've ever had, but improving.

My cholesterol thank goodness is easily controlled with diet. I have had levels around 280!! Went on a strict diet and dropped it to 198 in 3 months, do need to get it checked again.

Congrats! Dennis, you just never get enough good news from your doctor.:) It must be all that parking lot striping in the middle of cold wet weather that made you tough.

EDIT: I had my PET scan yesterday. The cost of the test was a little over $4k, but my cost is $0. Thank you Medicare and Tricare supplement.:D
