I agree. I've tried just about every brand of canned chili I could find. I do think Wolf Brand might be the best of the "canned" chilis but still hardly good enough to be worth buying.

Well I'm still a virgin when it comes to canned Chili, but I thought I might give it a try since you guys like it and it is supposed to be from the late 1800's. Not sure if it fits Jim's definition of real Texas Red though?
Jim says:
" Texas chili has neither tomatoes nor beans. Now, you can fix it anyway that suits you, but a pure Texas bowl-o-red is made from chili paste and course ground beef, no beans nor tomatoes."

I have so much Scotch/Irish blood in me I just may have to add potatoes to get it down.

Ron,, I do like to take my chili, homemade, spoon it over a nice big baked tator,, add couple of chopped jalapeno and some onion may be a little sour cream on top,, mix all together with fork and knife,, little cornbread on the side,, with ice cold shiner (two),, It'll have you saying,, "Hey there maw you got any more of them there tators left?" Lou

We are now into the Winter part of the Fall/Winter Texas thread.
Have a Happy Winter Solstice day.

First day of winter 2013 here. 60 deg. 2" of rain overnight, tank is full and coming out the overflow.
Time to sit on the front porch and listen to the rain dancing in the spouting.

We had a misty, overcast, day yesterday, but the temperature stayed in the 60s and our total moisture was maybe .02". But then the light (and welcome) rain started about 1 a.m. this morning. And now it's up to nearly an inch of rain in the gauge. So far only one thing unusual. I hadn't seen any lightning or heard any thunder until about 8:35 a.m. when I first heard one very low rumble, as if there was thunder a long ways off. And then a couple of minutes later, one single clap of thunder that had to be the loudest I ever heard; unbelievable!

I had completely dried out, from the ice week, and have now had over an inch of rain, with this system! Looks like I might get a little run off into my stock tank, of this continues! It isn't warm enough to sit outside and listen to it, without extra clothes, so I will just watch it from the window, while I sit in front of the fire!

Ron; I tried to warn some of you, there isn't a canned chili worth buying. It has to be homemade! Anyone that thinks any canned chili is good, either doesn't like to cook, or doesn't have a good homemade recipe. (Or maybe grew up on canned.) I always make a big pot of chili, and put some in pint and half pint containers to freeze, with each pot. Can be enjoyed in the winter, when one has no time to make a pot, or enjoyed over hot dogs during the summer!

As I said, I'm a virgin when it comes to canned chili, never had such a thing before. Tried beef ravioli in a can once. The dog got most of it.
My wife is warming up the rest of the chili I made the first of the week, right now. 3rd lunch and it is gone.

FG. you can wear clothes sitting outside listening to the rain or dancing in it, this time of year.
I sat out up here in shorts and T-shirt drinking coffee after doing the treadmill to cool off this morning.
Won't be many days like this for a while.

It wasn't Chef Boyardee, was it? As much of their stuff as the grocery stores stock, someone must really like it, especially kids, I'd guess. But I can sure do without their products myself; just doesn't suit my taste.

I got all of my Christmas shopping done,, with the exception of one.. Well I only have one to buy in the first place.. Okay so I lied,, But if I had bought that one,, I could have said,, I got it all done,, what do you buy for a woman that has everything,, She has children/grandchildren/ great grandchildren and husband that loves her very much,, what else could she need,, she keeps talking about a washing machine,, but I hate to do that,, that's what keeps her upper body in nice shape,, using that wash board.. Toting those tubs.. I'm glad Christmas only comes around once a year to much thinking.. Lou
