We had a total of 3/4" rain. I can see the deer down the road looking at me wondering when I going to feed them their morning corn. I need to bundle up and head down there or they will go to the weekend warriors and meet their demise.

It's 31 degrees here this morning and has hovered around that all night long. My deck railing has 4" icicles, and the deck surface has 1/4" of glare ice. We are coming and going through the basement and garage doors. All trees are iced over and the woods is glistening with ice. I have cedar trees that look like weeping willows. If we get more freezing rain and ice over Sun-Mon, I'll start losing tree limbs if not power lines also. I'm hoping most of the moisture stays south of us. I'll let FG off the hook this time. She can have all my freezin' rain.:D

Well I got to get out in the cold today.. it's 45 right now with a high of 50..,,I got to move some grass around,, would like to call it hay but because of the lack of protein in it,, I will call it grass.. You know it not good when they eat a little then use it as bedding.. but the grass is still green somewhere over the rainbow..:D..Lou

Speaking of feeding, we are into bird feeding already up here.
Purchased 2- 50 pound bags of Royal Classic last week. May have been a bad batch, but 99.9% Milo by looks when we opened the first bag. No actual percentage given on bag, but it sure doesn't look like the picture on the outside of the bag. Doves are about all that will eat Milo up here.
We always add more black sunflower.
Called them up and they will take it back for a refund within the next 30 days, which we will do.
Hopefully we will need something else to offset the gas cost.

Lou, I hear "grass" is a big commodity in some circles:laughing: but I think "those" folks" use it for something else?

Pacerron; You are much too kind! THANK YOU!

Here is another shot of better weather than this stuff! I was getting ready to do my rain dance, last month. And before y'all make comments about my 1050's front wheels needing painting, yes, they do need it. It is on the "To do" list! I got tired of fixing flats, due to mesquite thorns, so this last Spring, I put 26 ply aircraft tires on the front of the rig. I laugh at the mesquites as I mow them down! I miss summer!

Oh man, just as I was going to opt out of this thread (not from Texas) you go and post this picture. I don't know what you mean by front wheels, I only saw one thing in the picture.

TomSeller; Once again, a huge THANKS! And you don't have to leave, just because you are not from Texas. We have Texas hospitality, and welcome our friends!

two_bit_score; I BIG thanks to you too! You won't be getting this much winter weather where you are, but it really does cramp one's style!

55 is still too cold, in my book. Besides, 55 in Santa Monica doesn't help me here! ;)

Is that your mowing costume in 100 degree heat?

I wear shorts and a T shirt most of the time in the summer on the tractor and get stung
in embarrassing places. When I complain, my wife says " you know real farmers/ranchers wear long sleeve shirts, bibs, and boots"
Meanwhile, she's running around in shorts and a halter top to keep cool.

Your having a heat wave compared to here. This is our forecast for the next few evenings.
Time to go turn on all the trickle chargers on the tractors and hunt up extension chords for the block heaters.

You probably never saw a tractor in Texas with a block heater?

Yep, temperature, humidity, and wind speed. In the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, Winter of 1971-72, was the only time I ever saw 20 below (on a thermometer at the apartment. The official low was only 16 below). I spent a good bit of time outside that morning and it wasn't bad at all; no wind. But the next morning, it had warmed up to only 3 below and the wind was blowing and I couldn't stay outside long at all.

At 20 below, in Fairbanks, guys are outside playing football in just long sleeve shirts, no jackets. When it got down to 30 below, that is when it started getting miserable. Moisture in your nose wants to freeze then. But I loved playing with the 3/4 ton 4WD Ford with snow plow they gave me to drive.
Gonna get the mittens out now and go try to finish the new bulkhead for the dam.
