Worked in Lewisville tonight, wasn't sure I'd get done gambling with the rain. Wind must have been blowing 30mph +!. Got done around 2am and just in time, light drizzle all the way up hwy 114 to the house. Wind is picking up now, probably around 40mph. From the sounds of it though, we should get some good rain with some runoff, better the farther East ya go.

Hopefully I wake up to see some of Jim's soaker hoses floating by, that would save me some $$ for the garden:laughing:

Charlie is that associated with town drunk and class clown.. When you sit around and write this kind of stuff,, You got too much time on your hands and liquor on your breath,,

Thanks Jim.. Lou

That's a problem?.........I thought that was being retired..........and being a sage.

robby; Most folks that use their dogs for bird hunting, "Snake proof" them. I have a friend that keeps a rattler in his freezer to use for such. Snake proofing consists of placing the shock collar on the dog, and laying the snake out. As soon as the dog shows an interest in the snake, it gets zapped with the shock collar. This is repeated, in different areas, until the dog shows an aversion to the snake and avoids it when it is seen or scented.

I have seen some try to wait to shock the dog, until it approached the snake. I find that to be a less than ideal means of training. If that would work, a dog would leave a snake alone, after having been bitten by a copperhead, etc., but they generally do not. So, timing is important in snake proofing. If one is going to do it, they need to find someone that truly knows what they are doing, and understands the concepts involved.

Some may think it a bit hard on the dog, but it has sure saved the life of more than just a few.

Here is a photo of my SIL, Daughter, and Grand daughter:) Can you guess which one is my FIL?:confused2: He loves Star Wars.View attachment 343618

Also, here is a photo of Houston Hobby Airport Southwest Airlines Gate 40. Maintenance (MX) got to decorate Gate 40 in the Halloween decoration contest. Each department decorated one gate.

We made the dragon in our spare time in the hangar. The theme is Dungeons and Dragons. I think we will win:thumbsup:, as I am told photos do not do justice over seeing it first hand. The dragon head is about 4 feet by 2 feet. Forewing span about 18 feet.:cool:View attachment 343617

When asked by a coworker what I was going to be on Halloween, I stated.........an Aircraft Mechanic.:confused3:

bindian- Your gate looks like you would have to fight your way thru it to get on board, kind of scary in a pretty sort of way. MX had to win!

Your right Charlie. Try to imagine a line of people on each side of the knight and it becomes less scary. I bet the kids are loving the dragon. Dragons have a scary cool factor that is off the scale.

Don't waste your soap on ant beds. They just moved over and were bigger beds in 3 days.

I poured a gallon of peppermint water (one gallon water to 1/4 tsp peppermint oil) on the new moved over ant bed mounds yesterday and today they all look gone. Stand by for a 3-4 day after report.

1.75 inches this morning. 1 inch this afternoon. This morning's rain filled the ponds. This afternoon's rain is putting the island pond overflow and spillway to work big time. 10-30-13 Island Pond Overflow and Spillway Working.jpg10-30-13 Island Pond Overflow Exit.jpg10-30-13 Overflow Pipe Blockage.jpg

Nice Brandi! Are you bottle fishing in your island pond? It looks like bottles floating around your island.

With the extra rain you folks have been getting this year, compared to last, have you seen an increased presence of the "Asian Lady Bugs"?

Last year we had a very dry summer up here and hardly any Asian lady bugs in the fall. Plenty of rain this year, actually too much for a decent garden, and if you step outside in the late afternoon or try to do much work, even on the tractor, you are soon covered with the little stinking pincher bugs.
South and west sides of building surfaces are a crawling mass of them.
They were imported into Michigan in the 1980's to give a "natural control" to the aphids by the Dept of Agriculture. Now there is nothing to control them. A few years ago a bunch were brought into Louisiana on cargo vessels and are now spreading across the south.
Do you have them all over Texas yet?

Watcha talkin' about, Willis? You sure aren't talking about any place around here. However, we do have the Asian lady beetles, but this year they have not appeared. Our trees have not dropped their leaves either. When they do, then the beetles show up on our houses.

Thanks Jim. The bottles come with runoff from the road ditch. I have not figured out how to stop then, while letting small limbs and leaves go through.

Brandi, kinda think I like the Blue color better:D

Dennis,
I think you need your eye prescription checked. I have never put in enough Aqua shade to take it to blue in either pond. It was a slight green before the rains. No more pond dye needed until next summer.

Been some major flash flooding around here today. Several roads were under I'm told. While I was walking around the ponds taking photos, I had the flash thought:mur: of building another pond to catch all that runoff I was watching go downhill.
hugs, Brandi
