My son in his Apache, modern day Darth Vader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PrU5XD2Ypo - Video Tube for YouTube - iPhone/iPad Sent from my iPad

If you saw this special on the apache, this my son. HS

Very cool. My son flew night time missions over Sadr City as well in support of special ops troops about the same time. He flew for the 227th out of Ft Hood.

Brandi, the Dallas Police Department only got their first helicopter in 1969. By 1973 we had 6 (all Bell 47s) and were keeping one in the air 24/7. But not long after I moved on to other things, they cut back on hours due to budget restrictions.

Bird,
Do you know when they replaced the 47s with turbine powered machines.
I always thought the Bell 47 with the jet engine conversion was cool.

Bindian, I learned to fly while in college in mid-70's. One of the airfields near my parent's house had a Bell 47 for rent, $55/hr IIRC. One of my freinds at the time worked for an Ag spray operation, they were starting to spray forests in the South, and trying helicopters, Bell 47s.

Mgas,
Wow, that was cheap. In 1982, a Cessna 152 was costly $30 an hour to rent. I traded 3 maintenance hours for 1 flight hour.

Brandi, I was paying 11/hr wet for 10 yr old 150 to start. Airport upgraded to new 150(2) and price went up to 12/hr. 172 was 16, no way I could swing 55  :2cents:

Yep, a 172 was under $20 / hour (with fuel) thru mid 70's in Houston. Seemed like a lot at the time as I was going to night school at University of Houston. Easy to launch, fly, and land.

I took lessons at NAS Memphis Flying Club while going to "A" School in 1968. They had Cessna 150's and it was $10/ hr wet and $5/ hr for an Instructor. I got about 25 hrs in when the Navy decided I need to go to SE Asia. I never got a chance to finish and I did love flying. Those little Cessnas were a blast.
