Well it's 30 degrees up here and the grass is starting to show through the snow. I just got back from moving some hay rolls over to the horse barn in time to smell an apple pie coming out of the oven.

Homemade crust and apples from our trees.

She used to bake apple pies in a brown paper grocery store bags at 400 degrees. The bags never caught fire but did get a bit dark
in places once in a while. Must have been numerous folks that did have fires though as a new market for plastic baking bags emerged
as the paper bags got thinner and almost non-existent. We also do our turkey in a plastic bag.
Somehow it keeps the flavors in and the pie is sooo delicious.
She says we are out of ice cream so will have to go with pie only tonight at snack time..

I seem to remember my mom buying vanilla extract and also white liniment from the Watkins Man.:)

I remember the Fuller Brush man with Red Skelton, I don't remember a Watkins man at all.;)

We had both Watkins and Rawleigh Products salesmen making calls. At times, we bought stuff from both. When the Rawleigh Products dealer became one of my Dad's insurance customers, we bought mostly from him. There was a lot of brand loyalty between both types of products.

Another one of my dad's tenants was a Dr. Pepper salesman and another insurance customer was a Lays Potato Chip salesman. I think that's why we mostly drank Dr. Pepper and we would buy potato chips and Fritos in 5 lb metal tins like they used in restaurants.:licking:

jinman; I remember the Charles' Chips guy selling potato chips in those big cans. Since I am younger, that's why it was a different brand and guy!? :D

We had to return the can and exchange it for a full one. We didn't do that often, maybe 4 or 5 times a year. One time, I ate so many Fritos that I almost OD'd and could not stand them for about 10 years after. It took a few good Frito pies to get me back in the "fold.":D

We exchanged out cans too! I don't think I ever ate as many of those chips as you did Fritos though! I can't remember how often the guy came around, but seems like it was every other month. I think we only bought chips about every other visit, so around 3-4 times a year, like y'all did.

Brandi, I would, for no other reason but CYA. Never know how an irresponsible owner will react. Get it on the "record"

I'm with the others also Brandi. Contact the Sheriff. The first time might be a fluke but 2 attacks is inexcusable especially coming on your property. That dog needs to go.

I never remember the Watkins man, but I asked my Grandmother years ago if she had heard of them, and she said that he use to come around and they would barter Chickens & Eggs for the Watkins products. My Dad always like their Black Pepper.

In Michigan we still had a Watkins man coming until about 10 years ago. As a kid we had Watkins, Fuller Brush and other door to door salesmen. Still see Watkins at TX flea markets.

Lou, Thank you, thank you, thank you. I followed you lead on a little electric 5 ton wood splitter and I am very happy with it. I split all my wood in an hour with no pain. I do like how low to the ground it is but did not like staying in the stooped over position while holding down the lever so I made a quick foot pedal with a board, wire and duct tape - then it was perfect! No problem splitting dry Post Oak.
I reviewed it here - Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck - Page 388

What is the cycle time for the ram to close and then reopen?
Does it reopen automatically when you take your foot off the pedal ?
