Those $7.5K rebates are available to any and all EV manufacturers for the first 200,000 vehicles they sell. It's not a government gift to Tesla exclusively. Two quarters after the manufacturer reaches 200,000 vehicles, the tax credit is cut in half. Two quarters later it is cut to 25 percent. At the start of the sixth quarter after the limit is reached, the tax credit disappears completely. Tesla is getting close to the 200,000 mark and may have passed it already. Which means that the rebates on the Model 3 at this time may be less than $7.5K.

No tax money should be paid for anyone making $100k to buy any car.

Depends if the scientist is on the payroll to 菟rove and ice age, global warming, climate change or what ever the next new term is . How about those flooded coastal cities that were promised a couple of decades ago.

Yeah- like when the Bush white house rewrote the scientists findings..
from the times article:

In handwritten notes on drafts of several reports issued in 2002 and 2003, the official, Philip A. Cooney, removed or adjusted descriptions of climate research that government scientists and their supervisors, including some senior Bush administration officials, had already approved. In many cases, the changes appeared in the final reports.

The dozens of changes, while sometimes as subtle as the insertion of the phrase "significant and fundamental" before the word "uncertainties," tend to produce an air of doubt about findings that most climate experts say are robust.

Mr. Cooney is chief of staff for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, the office that helps devise and promote administration policies on environmental issues.

Before going to the White House in 2001, he was the "climate team leader" and a lobbyist at the American Petroleum Institute, the largest trade group representing the interests of the oil industry.

A lawyer with a bachelor's degree in economics, he has no scientific training..

frankly I'll side with industry, over government. I like my gas, my computer, my phone, my pad. Can you imagine government involved in those things how they might look or work. You'ed be in line like in communist Russia for a chicken.

Some of those advancements can be traced directly to the Apollo program

ie (Government) inertial guidance navigation- Apollo flight computer (the 1st use of IC's in a computer), miniaturization of computers cameras, radios...

I think EV price drops will hurt Tesla.

94% of Tesla buyers make over $100,000 per yer and recoup $7,500 in tax rebates per car. Taxpayers should not be paying for anyone making $100,000 per year to buy a car.

You know you're telling a guy with solar panels not to take tax rebates, right?

The laws of physics dictating anodes, cathodes, electrolyte, electrical insulation, thermal dissipation, current carrying capacity , durability , number of recharges , loss of capacity, resistance to vibration , cost and keeping the lithium from bursting into flame .

Physics dictates the energy density of existing battery technology will not reach the energy density of fossil fuels. It does not preclude the development of new technologies that reach or exceed the energy density of fossil fuels.

There are a lot of tax deductions and tax rebates available to people who make more than $100,000 per year. Do you advocate eliminating all of them, some of them, or just this one?

On edit: Which is it that you object to?
1. People with $100k income getting tax rebates
2. People with $100k income getting tax rebates on cars
3. People of any income getting tax rebates
4. People of any income getting tax rebates on cars

They may be bankrupt in a year if the pyramid scheme gets sufficient exposure.

Chevy has beat Tesla and other manufactures to the market with a reasonable priced EV with range , seating capacity , storage capacity , handling, power , durability and dealer support. The Ford Focus EV maybe a contender.

What is this new tech? Batteries are an anode and cathode with an electrolyte between them. There are only so many combinations of elements and electrolyte combinations . Sorry to disappoint but they airn稚 nothing new to try together .
Claims of 渡ew tech in the lab does keep the hopes up for greenies . And the spending of billions in tax dollars to engineering firms to print out optimistic reports and requests for more research money. Makes for a comfortable income for all involved .

There should either be rebates for everybody or rebates for nobody.

Even Musk admits he cannot [yet] build cars for profit;

Tesla is one of the finest examples of salesmanship, showmanship and discovering or manufacturing financial loopholes .

And conartistry

Con artist is what he is, and a very good one. He hasn't delivered anything yet, except getting rich off of promises. And his followers are as unthinkingly loyal as any cult leader's minions.

All of them, along with the entire deceitful, manipulative tax system, including state and local taxes, and property taxes.

Replace it with a retail sales tax, and user fees for particular government services. (Such as paying for permits, passports, etc.)

Stop pretending that businesses pay taxes, stop allowing Congress to pick winners and losers in the game of economics, and most of all, stop lying about what our tax burden is. Put it where it really is - at the consumer level, right in everybody's faces where we are forced to face the cost of our government.

That sounds like a good scientist to debunk Global Warming.

Loss of clean air is like a tax, it reduces quality of life, and health. How much should an American accept "loss of clean air?" Allowing pollution of our air is a "subsidy" for ICE engines. When should THAT subsidy be terminated?

See how silly that sounds? While physics is fixed our understanding of it is not. Economics change and new techniques are discovered that change things that were once unfeasible to viable. I for one am excited to see what new world our children will inherit, assuming we can get our collective act together.

Why would you take the time to use a re-write diversion instead of considering that battery capacity has limits ? Just because you have a worthy goal does it mean that it can be wished into existence . Nor can spending enough money can change the laws of physics .

I don't know, my crystal ball is broken.

Your definition of a battery is much too narrow. A battery can be anything that stores energy and can deliver that energy on demand. It isn't limited to the types of batteries we are all familiar with, e.g. lead-acid, NiCd, lithium ion, and other chemical batteries. To use a tired phrase, you've got to think outside the box.
