Hi everyone. I have a B3200 and the temperature gauge goes to hot (red area) every time i turn the key on. this happens whether i have the temperature sensor wire plug on or not. even after sitting overnight and engine cold. anytime key is on.

I checked the wire going to sensor and have .81 volts. since the gauge reads hot when on, would that eliminate the temperature sensor? also is the temperature sensor on this 4 cylinder located on the passenger side of the engine at the back near the fuse box? also when ign. is on, all the fuses checked hot on both sides with a test light.

Is there anything else the is to check or do that i haven't done? any help would be appreciated! thank you.

p.s. i forgot to add that the gauge returns to cold with the key off.

The guage more than likely works on a variable resistance (temperature dependent) thru the sensor to ground. If grounding the sensor wire to ground with the key on makes no difference, it sounds as if the actual gauge has taken a crap or else the wire is shorted to ground from the sensor to gauge somewhere.
If you can get to the back of the gauge, one wire should go to + and the other should come from the sensor. Unhook the wire that goes to the sensor and see if the gauge drops to cold. If it does run a wire from that terminal to the sensor and see if it works correctly. If it does, then you have a short in the original wire somewhere to ground......Mike

The Temp Sensor on the block normally indicates for the Pre-Heat System. The Temp Sensor for the gauge should be on the Thermostat housing.

Hope this helps

i want to thank for all the help. i looked on youtube and figured out how to take the dash apart and low and behold there was a mice nest with chewed and broken wires. i vacuumed and blew out the mess, and either will repair the wires or have it done. i was part of the storm in north central Arkansas and have cleanup work to do. also getting cataract surgery monday the 20th of january. to much to do and not enough time to do it.

ill let everyone know when it gets repaired and back working again.

thanks again for the replies and the help!!!!

Cataract surgery will not impede your project abilities for more than several days.
It is a wonderful thing!
