Hi , can anyone tell me please which pump controls steering? one or two element one . I have no clutch pressure on gauge no steering but goes forwards and back plus lifts blade.thanks . I have been told to check suction filter but have not yet.

As you’re sitting in the seat the transmission pump a two section pump is under your right foot, the suction screen is also under the floorboard mounted to the right frame, there also should be a pressure filter in the battery box behind the selector valve, the single section pump under your left foot is for the blade, the filter is loc in the tank, also if the machine is moving forward and reverse it has clutch pressure, this pressure travels through the steering valve to engage the steering drives which engage the planitaries to drive the sprockets, did this problem just appear or something that happened over time.

I just bought it it only turned one way and pressure on gauge on top left of dash was only just in green. I wanted to fix it before use but its dry and a fire bug lit fires bordering my block . So i decided to put breaks in, turning left then having to reverse to turn right on same brake. Then it stopped turning , I look at gauge and needle right on left side of gauge no pressure. I have not checked the strainer. Also when i bought it the foot brake didnt work, he said it was disconnected , didnt give any good reason. when i pulled boards up i can see where shaft should be, but the whole shaft has been removed. i need to fix that while fixing turning.

I did read some explinations on line . The system works backwards to what i thought , I thought it was free spinning and got stopped by pressure to turn. As you explained the pressure is on until released for turning . So have i burned the pads by using it on low clutch pressure?

It could possibly just be out of adjustment, there is a brake adjustment screw behind the drive sprocket, it’s hard to get to and you may have to dig around, but it’s behind the sprocket on the final drive housing, a large lock nut with a hex bolt in the middle, loosen the lock and turn the middle bolt in a half or so at a time and see if it starts to steer, may have to try a few times before it steers.

I need to fix the pressure problem though, will be great if just suction strainer, I think i should fix that first. Am i wrong ? I probably should take the transmission cover off anyway to see how to fix the brake rod that seems to be missing. I'll have to get a machine down to it to pull the cab and fuel tank. looking like a big job. If I pull the round cover off the back of tranny , I should see if the clutches move shouldn't I ? Sadly it's stuck way down paddock on rough ground.

I would definitely pull the suction screen and clean it and change the pressure filter in the battery box if your machine has it, as far as pressure goes I wouldn’t trust any of the old gauges to be very accurate, in my opinion if the machine has enough pressure to lock the disc on the planitaries it should have enough pressure to steer, I believe that the steering brakes are out of adjustment or too worn to grab the disc, there are four large discs in the differential, two steering and two drives connected to the planitaries, when a gear is selected pressure through the steering valve/levers locks the discs on the planitaries which makes the machine move, pull back on the steering lever slightly releases the planetary on that side, the machine will slowly track off to that side, pull the lever all the way back it locks the brake on that side and the machine will turn that direction since the opposite side is still locked and pulling, if you pull both levers all the way back it should lock both brakes just like pushing the brake pedal and hold the machine, at this point the differential would be free spinning.

Thanks, How much can you see from pulling the round rear cover? Do you know what pressure it should be? maybe i can buy a gauge and check it. I'll do the screen this weekend, you wouldn't know what size o ring i need do you. It's a pain if i go all the way down and pull it off i won't have time to go back into town for the o ring.
