Hello Everyone,

I'm brand new here.

My neighbor's TC55DA is blowing steam from the vent tube. Strangely enough there is NO water in the oil. When the machine warms up the steam gets more intense. The machine is using coolant.
We are thinking blown headgasket or possibly a cracked head. But I have to ask.....Is there some o-ring in there or any other low cost possible answer to this problem?

We were just looking the machine over trying to size up what kind of a job it would be to get the head off. In any job there is a trick or two that not knowing will cause a stumble. Can somebody direct me to a post that outlines the process or even better...maybe a youtube video that outlines the procedure.

Some general questions:

We were trying to decide if the fuel tank needs to be removed? That looks like it could be the worst part!

Also, I was just looking around on the web and saw a post that talks about precombustion chambers? What are they and in disassembling the motor how much do they add to the complexity?

I can see the injectors. We can just dissemble them and unscrew them from the head right? That looks to be important in getting at the head bolts. Also, once the valve cover comes off..do the valve rockers remove as a set which then provides access to the head bolts under them.

Where the heck are the glow plugs???? We don't own the service manual if anybody has those pages that would be the deal maker for us in doing this job.

Thanks for your input.

Anybody got a copy of the service manual for this tractor? Could you scan and post the pages from the engine section which relate to head removal and replacement???? (IE: need head bolt torque values and valve clearances.)

I don't have the manual but you can order one on ebay i'm sure. You may also be able to download one off the net. As for the steam I'd say you have 99% chance its a head gasket. As the engine heats up it will separate the seal. Is there any oil in the radiator? Drain a little fluid out and see what you get.

Thanks Sawtooth, My Neighbor pulled it apart and sure enough... the head gasket is bad. He had the head machined slightly to be sure it's true and will be reassembling it soon.
