The PTO lever on the TC40D will not move so the PTO will not engage/function. I checked and there are no sticks/debris or stones restricting movement. This is my brother's tractor and it has been outside for 5 years and the PTO not used for several. I did spray some penetrating oil anyplace I thought could cause a bind or be frozen up. k

Any ideas or suggestions to free up the lever or system? The FWD lever and the 1 and 2 on the hyrdostat lever are near by and they both move and function. Thanks

I sometimes experience a similar problem. I have found my solution to be shifting the transmission into neutral. With the clutch depressed I may then be able to engage the PTO. I may then shift into gear and things work normally. My PTO has square cut gears which don't always align without playing a bit.

I think seville 009 directed me to the fix. Unfortunately the tractor was used for salt spreading and the bolts are so rusted I cannot get the two shaft bolts loose. I used penetrating oil, heat and pressure. I did not want to break the bolts if I could avoid it or round off the heads but it may come down to that or cut them off with a cut off wheel.

Roadworthy, that would be a possible help but it is a hydrostatic trans so there is no clutch to try that with.

I agree I think seville 009 has you o the correct path... We had a similar condition on our TC40D all the levers, PTO, 4WD, & Drive were hard to mover. Took is all apart, cleaned it up, greased it along with all the linkage parts & what a difference.
Make sure you are using a really good penetrating oil (like Kroil or equivalent; thy'er not a created equal) on those bolts it them with a small amount a couple times a day for a few days at least. Just we had to do the same thing on a different piece of equipment took a week of hitting it with Kroil but finally freed up.

Hope they free up for you

Actually got it apart and back together again. Still pretty stiff on the PTO and FWD. Part of the reason may be whoever used it in the past bent/twisted those two levers. I did not realize it until it was back together and trying to put the console back on. Nothing wanted to align. Tomorrow I will take it apart and try to straighten the levers with a mallet or in a vise. Those two are of thinner stock than the main drive lever. Hopefully that will help some. A lot of rust and dirt drop down when under there. Thanks for all the help.

Straightened the levers as best I could. Back together and all works well now. Thanks all for your help.
