Hello all,

I had recently been inflicted with the common HST pedal broken linkage problem--luckily I was able to spot weld the shaft where it connected to the B shaped cam and all was well.

Now however a couple days and about 10 tractor hours later the machine will barely creep in reverse with the pedal fully depressed but has full power in forward. The HST pedals will center when released. Since the pedals center I am thinking that this might not be a mechanical adjustment issue but something else.

Has anyone experience this issue and if so how was it fixed?

Warm regards,

Kent

There are a few adjustments, but here's a good place to start. Look underneath and rearward from the pedal linkage. Right behind the 3 pt linkage you'll see a concentric circular piece with an offset 12mm (I think) bolt head. Mark the position and loosen the bolt to adjust. Instead of trial and error, it's easier to make adjustments with the tractor in 2wd and the rear tires off of the ground.

If you do a search hear with member "jinman" in the user box, I'm sure you'll find plenty of info.

HST Pedals fixed.

Thank you for this group's posts over the years the schematics and previous pictures posted proved invaluable.

My previous fix was to spot weld the shaft where it attached to the B shape cam-shaft, the spot weld only lasted two days.

But since I made a t麹rap door it was easy to get back to the second time around. I originally made the trap door as a field expedient way to get my tractor out of the woods and up to my garage. Using the trap door allowed access to the shaft from above allowing the use of vice-grips to control forward and reverse movement. The TC40D has a thick rubber floor mat that I unbolted and lifted up to get to the steel deck?thus the ugly trap door will not be visible.

Once back in the shop I spot welded the shaft through the trap door, the second time around I burned it in quite well. I made sure the HST shaft and pedals were aligned to the neutral position then welded what I could access then pushed the pedals full in each direction welding the newly exposed shaft / cam location, it is now about half welded? There is no way to access it from the bottom and from reading the posts it is a full day's project to remove the HST shaft assembly.

I posted a picture of the trap door exposing the broken shaft /cam weld, notice however the fuel line runs over this shaft and up against the transmission (danger close).

I did shield the line and had a fire extinguisher and water hose within arm's reach.

Once the shaft was fixed I greased the cam and shafts, tightened the HST return spring, and adjusted out any creep and the machine was again 100% (minus 1900 hours).
