TC40A Starter Motor -- Aftermarket?

Hey All,

Is there any reason not to get an aftermarket starter for my TC40A? It is well out of warranty.

New Holland wants ~$650 for one of their starters and I can get an aftermarket one with a one year warranty for $100.

As long as the manufacturer states that it's a direct replacement for you're model,I wouldn't hesitate.Take your savings and go have a nice lobster dinner.

Aftermarket gets my vote. Even Messicks carries an aftermarket starter in addition to NH. Thier's is priced at about $175, but the $100 one will probably be okay. That starter is used on lots more than our NH tractors and seems to be common.

I would have the existing one rebuilt. There is guy here locally who specializes in starters. He does anything from stock, to very high end race starters for NHRA and NASCAR guys; people ship him their starters even.

I had the starter for my truck rebuilt a couple months ago. It was less expensive than a high grade new starter, but a little more than a new "inexpensive " starter(this is for my RAM/Cummins). He did a great job, is extremely knowledgeable, explained what was wrong, and how he would replace with higher grade components. He has done three starters for me previously.

There are a couple places near me that do rebuilds, but this guys is known for his good work.

He had my starters rebuilt within a couple of days every time.
