Thank you all for the information posted on this forum, it saved me lots of cash on my recent repairs.

I had the proverbial fuse issue and another minor one.

Anyhow, I now have a tach issue, I think it is simply the lead from the alternator, but, don't know where the red wire connects on the alternator, any info?

I also am wondering if anyone know if our fuel caps are vented, I think the are. I had to replace mine and the new one doesn't seem to be vented; thus, I have ran into fuel issues.

The fuel cap must have a vent OR there has to be a vent on the tank itself. One or the other.

The tach lead should be a yellow wire and it connects to the alternator just below the battery charging cable on the alternator.

Your wire might not be yellow but that's the last color I remember the tach lead as.

You're probably correct Jim. I'm not sure when the colors changed or if there were other colors used. It depends on the model changes and part # changes.

Oh,I completely forgot about the fuel cap issue. If you got a replacement cap and got the "new" part #,I don't think it has a vent. The later production units had a vent hose added to the top of the tank, therefore the vented cap wasn't necessary.

Jody, I've sure learned that you can't compare old to new in many instances. I think the photo below is the right alternator. The connection marked "pink" is the one for the tachometer unless NH started using a completely different alternator.

Jim,thanks for the pic. Now you gotta remember it's been a while since I wrenched on one of these,my memory is starting to get a little fuzzy. Maybe it's the class II that have the setup I was referring to. :confused2:

Thanks for all the help guys...I'm sorry I was a little slow in response, been a crazy year.

Any ideas how I can vent the old style tank, or get an old fuel cap? My original fuel cap fell victim to the Land Pride 2584 Finish Mower. :)

Best bet would be to have your dealer get the correct cap. Otherwise, you'd need to order the tank vent fitting and vent hose and cut/drill a hole for installation. I'm assuming the vent fitting is available as a service item.

This is the "correct" way,I'm sure you can probably find a "shadetree" method and save some $$$.
