My tractor has stopped starting unless I'm sitting in the seat. After some debugging I've determined the start circuit diode is bad (confirmed with multi-meter). It looks like it's NH part number 86512707. Has anyone found a substitute besides the NH part which costs $92 (for what appears to be a very simple electrical component)?

Does it have any other markings, numbers, or identification on it other than the P/N?

A good point, I should have scrutinized it more and looked. A guess many of these haven't gone bad. I'll go look at it more carefully and see if there is anything else on it.

I buy, maybe a hundred one amp diodes for a buck or so off E-Bay. Diodes really are cheap.

There are no switching speed issues in this application, and most start PRV around 50 volts which is plenty for a 12 volt system. Then, playing it safe, say pick a larger 10 amp one. No reason, you can't get that one diode for a buck!
