Does anyone know why the TC35A, purchased 7/2004, and the TC48DA purchased 9/2005 have different temperature ratings? The TC35A is rated at opening at 82 degrees C, 180F, and the TC48DA is rated at opening at 71 degrees C, 160F. Is it due to one being a compact, and the other being called a utility? Interesting!

One is a 3-cyl and the other is a 4-cyl. . . different thermal lag from the time the thermostat opens until the radiator can provide cooling?

I'm familiar with automobiles in the 60s era that used a 180 degree thermometer in the winter and a 160 degree thermometer in the summer; however, I thought all thermostats had generally changed to 180 degrees on new models. That's an interesting find and I can't give you any definitive answer, only a guess.

I was thinking along those lines also, a four cylinder fluid has to flow pass 4 cylinders, so cooler input water is needed? Or does the factory engineers plan for the utility machine to be out plowing all day long, and be worked harder, for extended periods?

My industrial backhoe has a 160F thermostat.....

CNH probably got a good deal on the thermostat so they changed it to save $$$.
