TC33DA - adding oil slowly to avoid engine damage?

I would like to change the engine oil in my TC33DA with a Shibaura N843 3 cylinder diesel engine.

I've read that when adding the new oil, it should be added slowly to avoid engine damage. Apparently if added to quickly, the oil can find its way into the intake manifold.

So, this makes me a bit worried. About how slow do I need to add the oil? How fast is "too fast"?

I have not had an issue but I do pour slowly about a quart poured over say a minute.

Subscribed, because I've never heard of such a thing - which positively isn't to say it isn't! that's why I'm following!

Is this particular to this engine, or is it supposedly an all-engines type of thing?

Is there a breather tube that goes from the valve cover to intake? If yes then it might be possible to get oil into intake if it is lower than valve cover fill point.

Someone has given you some bad info or some "genius" on the internet is peddling garbage. When you are adding oil to the engine it is stopped so you get an accurate reading on the dip stick. Any crank case vent, even if attached to the valve cover, would not allow oil, that you are pouring into the valve cover or any other fill point to vent because the pressure relief, built into the PCV valve is well above the weight of pouring a quart or a gallon of oil into the fill point.

Thanks for link. I now will NEVER consider buying a New Holland product now that I can see the lack of thoughtful engineering design they put into making their products. In your link there is a post #3 and pic labeled ref 8 that supposedly indicates the connecting rod came into contact with the cylinder wall skirt at least once and possibly more. This would most likely be due to bent connecting rod due to hydro lock of the piston. If the internal crank case vent is that poorly designed then I would be looking for the recall and a new engine. If no recall then sell that tractor as it begs what other half assed designs are included on that machine.

What happens if the oil return passages become constricted or blocked? Same outcome as pouring oil in to fast. A big bill and a dead machine ALL due to sloppy design.

Wow, what a read! I would never guessed that pouring oil in too fast could cause a catastrophic problem.

So, it looks like the issue may be for other Shibaura engines, not specifically the N843 that my TC33DA has?
